I deal with all the bookings and check-ins, back in March I was out so G had to deal with one. Australian couple arrived, booked 31st, arrived on 30th. G doesn't know how to get onto the computer to check emails and stuff, so he did the best he could which was offer the 1 remaining room. She inisted that she never makes mistakes and got stroppy because all we had was a twin when she booked a double.

There's always that worry that I've got it wrong.

However when I got home not only do I have her email booking the 31st but she replied to the confimation asking us to book her a dinner table, so she couldn't even claim she didn't received the confirmation.

I printed both off, drew a red ring round the dates on both emails and took them up to her. Her demeanour changed somewhat after that.

the last one I had turned up 23rd march had booked 23rd of April they were ruddy lucky I had a room at all. When he showed me the confirmation I thought I had made a mistake untill I saw the month! the one before that was a group of 4 couples who let the one gentleman in the goup who was dislexic make the reservations online (do we feel this may have been foolish?") it came through to me as a reservation request which is where the online booking service says do you have the room? then you accept or deny it. It sends the chap an email saying your resevation request has been sent please wait for accept or deny. anyhow I denyied it then 2 days later came through again same chap same 4 rooms so I denied it again thats why I remembered him as I thought what an idiot if I don't have 4 rooms for sat on the monday I certainly am  not going to have them on wednesday! anyhow on the sat the 4 couples arrived (not all together thank goodness) we got 1 in with us and the other 3 up the street but luckily they wern't even surprised he had gotten it wrong. My point being why did you let him then? DUH

A couple of years ago a family of four from Germany made reservations online starting the next day. They meant to make them for the same day.

My husband and I were naked in our hot tub at 9PM when a car started coming up our driveway. We tore out of the hot tub and streaked into the house before they saw us. We put robes on to see who it was and found out they were mixed up on the date.

The next morning we told them where we were when they showed up. They said they wouldn't have minded seeing us naked - "We're German."

It's not only "check your dates" - it's MATCH DAY AND DATE

So you are looking for a room arriving FRIDAY 30 September for 2 nights departing SUNDAY 2 OCTOBER?

I never had it happen with our inn, but it happened a few times when I worked as an evening innkeeper at an inn for a few months.

OMG! It just happened right now! I had a no show last night and now they pull up thinking they had a reservation for tonight. Nope, no room at the inn.

Show up, not book and change it, literally walk up a day late or a day early, or a week off! I think some even have been a month off, booked October and showed in September!

A week early. And we were not expecting anyone so we were working on the building. Windows torn out, sawdust everywhere and they wanted to argue with us about us being wrong.

Another one recently who insisted she had a reservation and whipped out her paperwork and thrust it under my nose. I pointed at the calendar and she was all embarrassed, but she still owed me for the night she booked, which was the following night, not the one she showed up for.

A second one this summer who showed up a day late. Can't make guests read, but I can charge them.
