Does anyone know of any awards programs that we can enter? I know there is the BedandBreakfast.com one, but I was wondering if there was another program(s) that we could look into to show ourselves off!

I have a letter from a local school we support thanking us for our help. Means more to me than all that crap. Keep finding ways to help and recycle that cost me nothing but I do put them in the green section on my web site.

Local agrultural college has hens and needs egg boxes - so all mine go to them and they pick  them up.

Our jelly comes in small jars - goes to my friend sarah who makes jam to sell to fund raise for her kids school.

Point of purchase from American express - free aprons and pens go to sarah to keep the kids clean while painting  and writing which saves money to be spent on something else.

Plastic bottle tops from milk - go to local guide group and helps leppers

Helped co-ordinate crab apples to sarah which became crab apple jelly which will be sold to raise funds.

Helping my neighbour hood shop keepers build a web site and form a trade association to promote themselves and work together to improve their reputation. This in turn leads to discounts for my customers and PR and advertising for me.

We also try to shop local whenever we can supporting local business and give fruit that maybe has a mark on it etc to the local homeless shelter which is only a short walk away.

We also collect vouchers for everything ie schools or free tickets and freecycle them or give them away to guests its good advertising, good PR and good for locals to its all good all round.

THIS deserves an award!!!! THAT letter I would frame and hang in a VERY prominent place.

whats super sad is we have an amazing play park just up the road from us send families there all the time and its a nice walk with stunning flowers for  adults with a fab coffee shop. Someone on friday night burnt it. they must be very unhappy people. http://harrogate-news.co.uk/2011/10/08/play-equipment-destroyed-valley-gardens/  Will probably be involved in fund raising to get it fixed. people have little enough enjoyment at the moment and this was free to all. it really sucks!

AWARDS mean nothing these days...unless of course, you can get #1 in T A.  Don't bother. People don't care and they don't have a clue what they mean. And to most innkeepers they don't mean a thing either Sad

Now if you can garner a write up in the Washington Post or similar, or a story of similar importance in your area, that would be what you strive for..not these "rinky dink" ones from Lan ie r  or b aND B DOT COM.  To me they are a joke.

Many awards are self-nominations. If I have to nominate me, it means nothing if I get the award. Any awards I have been blessed with - someone nominated me. And of the awards I have received, the ones that mean the most are the PAII award from last year and the 2006 SBA award. A VERY nice one was being chosen by the Tourism Division to accpt a Proclamation for Tourism from the Governor (something the Governor looked upon as a "let's get this over with" from his demeanor at the time). It was being chosen by Tourism that gave it meaning - stuff the Gov!

I should have said "AWARD BADGES" mean nothing.. Sad Of course your sort of awards mean the world to you and other innkeepers but I don't know how much the general public would still appreciate them.  They don't appreciate badges....they are a dime a dozen Sad

Actually the awards mean squat to them too. They only have meaning to the recipient. What DOES impressthem is they gave me the proclamation and a photo of me w/Gov & Touriam Commissioner and DH matted & framed both in one frame that hangs in the dining room.  The Proc itself is just a bit of "feel good" for National Tourism Week  - means as much in actuallity as a National Peanutbutter Day would. But there I am with the Governor! That impresses the heck out of guests. Go figure.

sure it is fine to display awards and certificate etc in the inn. I believe the original poster was referring to award badges he could get for his web site to impress people.  Not in my mind....Sad  I encourage my clients to remove them all. Tacky looking and clutters up the pages.

Those badges are IMO tacky and only give free advertising to whomever the badge is from.

You can write up your own press releases about any interesting things you do. Lanier also has 'Best of' awards. TA does the same thing but not sure how you get into that one.

What's the reason you want a 'best of' award?

Nothing in particular, just looking for something to strive for, something that would set us apart from the other local B&Bs. We know we're cooler, but we want other people to know, too. Eye-wink

It might be easier to write that up yourself than to rely on someone else getting it right. If you are in an area with a good local paper, you can have them come out for a visit and write up something special that you do. That sometimes gets picked up by larger media.

Last year we were interviewed several times for the vets day program. Nothing we did, the media here were just looking for a story to tell on a slow day and they found us. Which I then parlayed into a TV interview for something completely different. And this year it went to a newspaper story and a magazine article.

Look around to see who is getting noticed and try to find out why.
