Mountain of My Dreams: The Early Years by Richard Antony (guests today who wrote this series)

I was telling these guests how the best part of this business is the guests. How I learn something new from every guest (if they interact).  She said "I wonder what we can teach you?"

Later on the conversation went to the book I enjoyed "A Year on Lady Bug Farm" by Donna Ball, which is based in the Shenandoah Valley...they live at Little Washington Virginia, so I thought they would get a kick out of it, esp since they spent 30 years owning and operating an azalea nursery.  Then he mentioned this book series. Lo and behold, he wrote it. Smiling

...and it looks so much like the same thing many of us innkeepers go through, with starry eyes and inspiration to do something different.  They adopted their son in the city and knew they had to get the heck out of there for all of them. And like most of us who take on our own business to simplify our lives, live in the country etc, they found out like we innkeepers have that we jumped out of the pot and into the fire!

Anyway, they just left and I got hugs from both. So a remarkable end to 2011...I can't wait to see what 2012 brings.

We had Grandpa who was a newspaper publisher and Grandma who lived most of their lives in MA and were sailors so yesterday we shared sailing stories and also he is a Shriner clown/musician 9he noticed my bari sax which sparked another conversation) AND

Son and wife who are in government work (son is in the IT side with a corp that sells software to gov.) BUT who in addition to being sailors are book collectors - today DH showed him the book of Longfellow he gave me fron Christmas years ago and they had a discussion on what a fine copy it was and current value as well as other books AND

grandson who is an adult that was just here. Poor thing, his family is just too interesting!

We also had a writer here on Monday. And a guy with a radio show. And 2 people who are in the movie biz. I think the writer is going to get more publicity for her brand new book than she thought she'd get at a little B&B!

We're hoping for a 2012 filled with more of these kinds of guests as well! These are the people we want...here to relax, do a little hiking, sightseeing, shopping. Stressed people who understand they control the stress and can let it go.
