I know this sounds stoopid, but when you open an email in the morning that was sent the previous night around midnight, do you determine the guest meant 'today' when they asked about 'tomorrow'? I already replied with an actual day of the week answer, but was wondering how you would interpret it.
I know when I received the email, but without knowing the time zone the guest is in, I don't know which day they were considering. (Of course all would be well if the person had just made a rez online!)

That is a tough one. I would, as the sender, when I say "tomorrow" around midnight mean "today" when you open it in the morning. But I would for sure not act on anything until they got back to me with an actual date.

Because I am in rare form right now, if I got this I would reply there is no availability. I am not going to play email tag with someone that should know to place a date in the email or as Maddie said - book online and be done with it.
Or was it one like I got yesterday that read:
Code:
Hello Dears !!
Code:
Do you have place for today & tomorrow. ??
Thanks !!

I don't pay too much attention to what people are asking for (as you mention....the actual dates they request are often difficult to discern!) but, in my response, I am VERY specific about what accommodations we have available for the general time they probably have in mind. In fact, I find that if I do not have availability for the dates they ask about, once I tell them the dates we do have they often re-arrange their schedule to fit our dates. So if they ask if I have a room for the 3rd-5th I tell them what I have from the 1st-8th, or even what I might have available for the following weekends, if a weekend seems to be what they are looking for. I do not post my availability and do not book on-line. I know that you are all gasping!

There are definitely places where this makes sense, especially if you have minimums and the like.
My guess for my situation is the emailer got the reply, thought I was an idjit for not 'knowing' what was meant and decided to stay elsewhere.

I don't. I try to answer with specific days. The say way that I'm careful to mention things like, the price is for 2 people and is based on booking directly via our website.
I look at it this way, if they come back to me, I can pull up the email as a defence. We had to do that once already with someone who asked for parking for a car, but brought a VERY LONG truck and didn't understand why we couldn't find a parking place for it.
