Innkeepers must be good at math

Three men went to a B&B to share a room (some inns would allow this, many inns wouldn't).
 
The innkeeper asked for $300 (must have been a very nice room).
 
Each man paid $100,  making up the $300.
 
Hoping for repeat business, the innkeeper later decided to allow a discount for the day, charging only $250 for the room. She told DH to return $50 to the three men.
 
DH quietly pocketed $20 for himself.  He gave the remaining $30 back to the three men.

Each man took back $10.    Therefore, each man paid 100 - 10 = $90  to  the inn.
 
$90 x 3 = $270 + DH's $20 =  $290.
 
Question:  Where has the remaining $10 gone?

The same thing happens when guests think '7 days prior to arrival' means 6 days.

And also, great trick to play on kids...tell them you have 11 fingers...count down on one hand from 10, get to 6 and then hold up the other hand and say, 'And 5 makes 11!' Most of them never catch on that you started at 10, but it keeps them busy for awhile.

The formula should be:    250 + 20 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 300     

This is why we take credit cards and use Quickbooks.

Broken math and violation of the BOMDAS rules. Each man has actually paid $83.33, tipped $6.67 and took $10 back... total $100.00
