98% of our guests book online. The 2% that do call first are directed to book online. I do not take any reservations without them filling out the reservation form as that forced them to acknowlege they are informed of our cancellation policy. It also makes them put in a valid cc number. I tell them they need to do it to get put into the system and guarantee them their room choice.

The vast majority of our bookings come through online.

The most important consideration for us is that we get a lot of bookings from people in the USA and Australia/New Zealand. With the time difference it can take days to complete a booking with emails going back and forth. Online is simpler for them.

Also for me have just started using a property management system which is going to make my life a lot easier ie links up to laterooms, booking.com, orbits, need it now, I know UK and expedia and a bunch of others and I just have to update one thing if i take a booking over the phone and it updates them all with them adding more and more channels all the time. I pay a set price for this and it also includes commission free online live avaliability through my web site absoute bargain and means if I get a call at the supermarket I can direct them to my web site for booking. A lot of my bookings come from abroad and for people who's first language is not english (have a lot of Dutch, German and Irish in this week)

Last year, I think I took two reservations by telephone, foregoing the online discount.

I can easily tell as the reservations come in via email from reskey. Otherwise I have to type them in. BUT I offer a $10 discount for them to bookonline, enter the info correctly and TICK the boxes agreeing to our policies. Then they have their confirmation immediately and it is a done deal.  Then I have the reminder email go out to them a few days before the reserved date "Looking forward to your stay!" or whatever it says, reiterating the policies they agreed to and basic check in instructions.

I put 60-70 but it would probably be higher if we didn't have a lot of regulars who book year on year for a praticular event and book direct as I have got them trained about commission. I have now introduced commission free (to me) online booking through my web site whereas before it was 3% which isn't bad but this is better and it means that if I am zipping about I can get them to book through my web site and not get stung. People do like online booking I think it is almost got to the point where they don't want to speak to a person.

Not really sure actually. I just know I will never drop online rez. Got one this morning. I had held off blocking the time I am out of town next week (Sun thru Tues) because of a possible I had talked to earlier this month that would not get brekkie so would not matter. This morning I got a rez for a 1-night Sunday. Took it when he said he would take his chances with DH doing brekkie. I will have it oven-ready before I leave (entree) and the rest in zip-locks so he can dump into serving dishes and serve. WOOHOO.

Just to get an idea where we all stand at this point in time.
