We had a couple booked for last night. They were going to arrive very late, so we left the cottage unlocked with the lights on with a welcome note. This morning, no guests. All the lights were still on, they just never showed. I called this morning and only got the fellow's voice mail.
They were either confused on the night or something happened to them. Weird.

Be prepared for them to show up today. That has happened to us quite a few times! And it is the reason I have on the confirmation SUBJECT LINE - DOUBLE CHECK YOUR DATES!
If not, at least you saved $ on breakfast foods...

I always wonder about people like that, though I guarantee they will never answer however many times you call. Mind you some people are just complete twits - example A couple booked a double with us as they were comming for a popular concert, bought tickets (not cheap) then proceeded to write the wrong date on the calender and book the babysitter for that next week as well. If they had checked their voice mail they would have saved a great deal of money, as we rang them about 4pm to ask when they were arriving. If they had got the message at least they would have saved the room money as I could have easily re-sold it. However it got to 9.30 we took the money and went to bed they didn't ring till about 10am the next day. I did offer them a good deal on another stay but they never rebooked. Tickets for this show are usually about $70-90 each.

We had that a lot last year. Wrong day, wrong week, wrong month.

No, no show s/b full reservation charge. That is how my policies read in case they have booked a dinner or a package. Full reservation charge is more than a 1 night. If it is a2-night booking, i will charge for the 2 nights plus tax. If I get money, the Gov wants his share and I am not paying it.

We had a no show Valentines stay. Two nights, $120 worth of add-on. No show, no call, no nuthin. That was an expensive non-trip for them!

This guy was charged for the night up front plus an add-on package. Finally got him on the phone once but said he was in a meeting and would call back. He didn't call back.
Tonight, we got a couple who said they'd be here between 6 and 7. At 7:15, DH called and they went to dinner...would be here about 8:00. They just came in...at 8:45.
We don't mind late arrivals. We leave a letter in the room, etc. But we have to KNOW they are arriving late.
It is just so blooming dark out here in the country on narrow, windy county roads that are not marked. So we like them to come before dark if possible. Otherwise, we worry.

I understand - WV does not waste a lot of money on signage either. I get the DC Beltway folks who look at the map and ignore my directions of using the Interstates - that would be 4-lane road until the last 6 miles.Instead they look at US Rt 50 that goes between DC and about 10 miles from me. It looks like a direct route - it IS, in daylight and in Summer. It is 2-lane and goes over mountains when it is not going around then with KYA turns. It is right interesting because in the dark besides trying to keep on the road, you are trying to avoid hitting deer and bears.
I cannot do a self-checkin so I wait up - dozing in my chair. Another reason no-shows get FULL charge!

I suppose a "no show means different things to different innkeepers. To me, a 'no show is a guest who does not contact you before arrival, does not arrive, and does not contact afterwards to explain they have been stuck on the tarmac for 16 hours, or buried in a blizzard for three days, and couldn't reach us.
We have only one I can remember... it was a discounted third party reservation (WE don't do that any more!) Those folks often assume that even if our policy doesn't allow a refund, they can squawk with the third party until they get their money back. BAD for us, bad for them. Did I mention we don't take those kind of rezies anymore?

We didn't sleep well last night. One or the other woke up wondering if they'd arrived. Very selfish to not have called us.

You never sleep.
Now you get why I was on fire with our 2:10AM arrivals last week. It was during the tornados hitting everywhere and we were on the route to be next for "severe weather" so I felt no matter what IF they showed we needed to allow them in, who knows, they may have been driving along ahead of them or something. They weren't of course. Just rude

. Never apologized. Never said a word.
I have a rule/policy that you must arrive on the day you have booked - this, again, after a similar situation.
We have guests EVERY WEEK who do this, arrive at 11pm when they tell us 4pm. So we have notes out for them ALL THE TIME NOW. And guess what, they all are using a GPS and we are EASY TO FIND.

Sounds like your no show might have been a 'date' that fell thru.
