For all those directories who visit our forum. Stop the spam already! If I am not a member of your directory RACK OFF ALREADY! I get them from BnBfinder.com, iloveinns.com, Bedandbreakfast.com, and more... It gets a bit old, if I WANT TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR DIRECTORY I WILL LET YOU KNOW, OKAY?
Stop sending me spam! STOP IT NOW!
Obv I can't send you an email or you will consider it a bite of interest and have one of your sales reps call me, which already happens about once a month, from eveyr directory - well known - and not well known. Your emails tell me how much business I am losing by not being on them, it is rubbish. We innkeepers, yes we stupid innkeepers actually run stats reports, we actually do our own marketing, every single day, your directory does NOT send us tons of business, you are wrong, you are not telling the truth.
No more explaining "No we do not accept the Bedandbreakfast.com DISCOUNT gift cards!" WHY NOT? WHY CAN'T I USE IT THERE? WE REALLY WANT TO STAY THERE...
Thank you for listening, nothing personal, there are some fine people who work in those businesses in our industry who I respect.

I have labeled all of the bb.com emails as spam with the exception of my billing statement. They all go into the spam folder. Same with ResNex, Inspect Inns, the villa people, and anything else that comes my way. I may have an account with some of these people but I absolutely do not want to hear from them every stinkin' day about how much business I am losing and how much more I would be making if I only paid them another $1000/year. Or did the auction. Or took the GC. Or, or, or...
And don't get me started on the 'brand name' directories (not the back room boiler people) that send out emails with atrocious spelling and grammar mistakes. Why would I entrust my business or anymore of my business to you when you don't even take the time to read over what you're sending out to thousands of CEO's? Yes, CEO's. I own and operate this business.
I think that's it, JB, you hit it...they think we're stupid and they can tell us anything and we'll buy it.

Don't they realize continuous spamming makes them enemies, not friends? I don't understand it, but it must get them some results or surely they wouldn't continue to make so many people mad.
I guess they think they have nothing to lose, since you're not currently with them anyway, but they do make it less likely for you to ever work with them in the future.

Also anything that starts with can I speak to the owner gets a firm NO and hang up and then call screening when they ring back! If you can't be bothered to even find out my name then sorry I ain't interested.

Just got another one as I am about to read your replies.
How could it make us friends? With friends like these who needs enemies! <Insert the three stooges nuck nuck nuck here>

I always tell people, those new to the www people, before I end up blocking them as they send fwd after fwd after fwd of crap junk political rubbish and little dancing kitties etc. STOP HELPING THE SPAMMERS. A lady I know sent me a 25megabyte email as a fwd of "if you are my friend you will send this to ten people" email.

One thing I have learned from this forum, is that innkeepers are not stupid. This group of creative, intelligent, business oriented individuals is educated and diverse. We come from different walks of life, thanks to the internet we share information with each other.
As a business person, I value experts in their field for input and guidance. However, in today's make a buck, you never saw my face 'cause I am just the person holding the place until the next guy/gal comes along, fast pasted world of high tech marketing, we as business owners (no matter the industry it affects all markets) are inumdated with the "I can do it better for you" pitches.
You, Mr or Ms Representative of the latest and greatest thing that will make my business boom, don't know squat about who I am, what I need, or how my business functions. When you know more about my industry than I do, I will take 5 minutes out of my day to listen to you. But you are going to have to prove it first.
Please do not insult my intelligence, my business, my marketing plans by indicating I am a fool for failing to subscribe to your current promotion. I am running a small business and it will take a lot more than an email or phone call to get me to part with the money I use to feed my children.
I used to say this or something very similar to it to virtually every "firm" who contacted me about how to run my business better. I/we even contracted with a reputable firm that was to help take the business to the next level. We had a private coach, went to several seminars, yadda, yadda. Not once did they take the time to drive an hour and set foot in our business to see what we really did, and how we really worked. Thank you, but NO. BTW this was not cheap, and I mean NOT cheap, you would think for a commitment of over $35,000 you would hop in your hot rod Corvette (paid for with small business owner's hard earned cash) and come see my place before you told me I was an idiot.
We only dealt with local vendors, if something went wrong I could drive over there and have a face to face. Did it sometimes cost more? Yes, but the peace of mind was worth it.
I applaud all of you for your ingenuity, creativity, business acumen, and your willingness to share with others in your industry.
Sorry I will get off my soap box now, but I hate hearing about companies overwhelming the small business owner with emails, flyers, and phone calls, when there is so many more pressing things to deal with.

I have hired a PR guy that I respect from the work he has done/does to promote me. BEFORE he starts, he is coming up to see my place and get a feel for it. He has known me for years professionall (and still likes me!) but wants to see my place and my town - part of what I want promoted - before he starts. I like that! It is a 2 hour + drive to come here.

And the callers. The same SEO company has called 2x today. I no longer answer their calls. My list of 'blocked' callers (and specific area codes) is getting longer by the day.
