It is not easy or cheap. You have to program the range expander so it sees your router and knows what to do with the signal. I will say that was the hardest thing we ever did here in re WiFi and we ended up just hard wiring the expander to the router. It might be worth it to hire the Geek Squad or someone local who knows how to do this quickly.

We have a booster for the wifi and the cell phones, it is installed in the attic 'err should I say penthouse suite.  My son decided to move upstairs last year and finished the attic so he could have more space.  He is my Geek Squad, took him about 30 minutes to install both.  I think we spent about $200 on the wifi part and $100 on the cell signal booster.  Wifi is stable and works great, the cell booster can go offline for no particular reason at least once or twice a week.  comes right back with a restart but requires a trip to the third floor.

I will say this though - in an old house, in a rural area.  Both have been a smart investment.
