I have a great idea! Let's all change things up a little and start raising the amount of a stay closer to the check in day! So the best rates are for people who book early! So this will force people to book early and stop driving us all crazy on all the last min bookings! I'm up for that!!! Lol!

I increase my rates one a year, just about when the summer rush starts. Those who booked early, get prices that are cheaper.

I, too am noticing that folks are booking later and later. We offer several discounts, and I've always been of the opinion that I'd rather take a discount for a room than let it sit empty. July was slightly up from last year in both revenue and occupancy.

For the first week of August, I'm running at 80% and if this keeps up, I'm not going to make it thru to November!

I already voted so I can't correct my vote now that you have added the Same/Higher choice. Since August is always full here, I keep upping my rates and we still fill!  Amazing

I see an option to cancel vote, so you can revote.

Ah, that is location!

We stress over every month. It's never full here. Once upon a time the PO's had a 90% August. It's never happened again. Not that I could survive a 90% August. It's just one of those things I look at and wonder about.

I can depend on a lot of things - for example here it depends on events ie is we have a ton of events one after another then we are battered but lucky!

Do not forget that figures lie and liars figure. IF family are in the rooms it is occupancy. Which set of books did they show you? IRS version or cooked?

We have all the reg forms with all the attached cc receipts. (Well, we did, we've shredded all the cc receipts with the cc numbers on them from the bad old days.)

Aug.....Horrible!

It ain't over yet! We have a saying here. When DH asks when the next guests are due in, the answer is xx date unless the phone rings.

Sometimes the phone rings when even I say no way - as in last week when I actually went to bed at 11 to read and the phone rang at 12:15 looking for a room. I felt badly, but not enough to get up, get dressed, and inevitably set the alarm for a ridiculously early hour to fix breakfast.

Today is only the 6th. Do not call it horrible until the 28th.

The tendency to book later rather than sooner is new for us. It's definitely the trend this year. In June, I was worried about July. Turns out though, July was fantastic...higher occupancy, higher room rates and more add-on packages were sold. I'm doing the happy dance!

Tough to say. If I compare to last year, which was off the charts in every way, I'll cry in my (cheap) beer. If I compare to the general July trend then thumbs up all around.

Even though it is discounted, the lady has upped both occupancy and revenue, but we also had a decent run of regular rates. I am starting to get reservations for October! Yes, after what it has been the last few years, I am surprised.

For us, reservations seem to be curtailed. Usually July and August are booked six to eight weeks ahead. But this year the Europeans who usually book well in advance haven't been booking. So my reservations are coming in two to three weeks ahead. But I haven't been doing much in the way of discounting and in spite of occupancy being down, my revenue is up. Which means less work and more pay. (Happy!)

How is everyone else doing? Notice any trends in your area that are different?

Our July was not good we were short  bookings compared to last year. When asking around most are complaining about July even thee big hotel chain Ho In. Aug so far is not too bad. But not booked up still alot of empty spaces.

Trend is our area seems like it is a different season for most . Short stays and coming from west . Not many european travellers .No Aussie this year . Really strange. A few Brits.  Also small amount of South Africans.
