According to postings on the PAII Forum, to post a participation in B & Bs For Vets on BWTS, one must now be a PAII member. I have sent an e-mail to PAII since my membership is up for renewal this month, that in view of this, please DO NOT renew my membership.. I will not be missed.
I did not start it to have it be a snooty clique. Someone had the gall to say the cost of a PAII membership would not break anyone. I beg to differ as I HAVE been in the financial position that a PAII membership WOULD break me financially. Only the fact that I was able to purchase the space of the pull-out sofa in another lady's room to help her with expenses made it possible for me to attend that Charleston Conference.
So, this year, I cannot post on the BWTS B & Bs for Vets site that I am a participating inn. Ironic isn't it!

Well, that's too bad. We liked doing this every year. And we had a lot of people looking forward to it. So, do you know what the official date is? People are calling to ask and I've told them I have to find out what the national group is doing first. That we didn't want to tell them the wrong date.
Yes, it is ironic.

someone needs to tell jay how unfair this is! This was a grassroots effort that got more press than they ever did. talk about a slap in the face! This really gauls me! So I guess anyone could still do it.... just promote it on your own website, blog, facebook etc. Military could not care less if you are a paii member or not!Sunday Nov 11 is the official day.

I meant the 'official' day we're hosting the vets. Is it the same as the actual Veteran's Day?

It is Nov 11 this year because Nov 10 is a Saturday and they did not think innkeepers would give up a Saturday night. I think I am going to offer the whole darn weekend - Fri-Sun and I will do it on my web site and through my Blog.
I just could not believe how many innkeepers were saying - so they join PAII; a PAII membership is not going to break anyone; and rubbish like that. I guess if you can afford to pledge $1000 to BWTS and another $1000 to have the honor of shaving off Jay's beard you might think it is no biggie for membership.
I only joined PAII because I understand the need for "numbers". I also understand one less is no big deal. It would only matter if I were someone important and I am not.

What is true and known at this point is that PAII has recently changed the Better Way to Stay promotional website to be limited to PAII members only.
Unless I've missed a memo, no one has said for sure what the date will be or if there will be an exception or workaround for non-PAII members to list on the B&Bs for Vets offer. I have not seen any email from PAII nor any response from PAII on either the PAII forums or in the mailings. I am not going to rush to judgment until I know what the facts are, and I trust that PAII will be forthcoming. I agree that it will be a shame if non-PAII members aren't able to participate, and I expect the program will drop off even more in that case.
As for the date being Sunday, it is not just that the night before falls on a Saturday, but also that as far as the government holiday schedule is concerned, Monday, Nov. 12th is the day that is the designated holiday. Many services and tributes will take place on Monday, making it practical that Sunday night is offered as the free stay. With Monday being a federal holiday, Sunday night is going to be just as fully occupied as a normal Saturday night - it will be just like any other three-day weekend. Innkeepers who offer Sunday, and who normally are occupied on weekends in November, will still be giving up revenue for the cause.
Let's get the facts first.

This has been batted around for over a week on the PAII Forum. I have been waiting for Jay or someone to come in and clarify, to say it isn't so, Joe. Ain't happened.
I do not care what day they use, if the web site is not open to all, I do not want to be part of it.
I am not renewing, and as I said, it is no biggie because I am not a somebody nor am I a deep pockets. And BWTS has not shown me anything yet that would make anyone think a B & B a better way.

The first post on the PAII forum was Sunday night, August 5 - not even a week ago. No one from PAII has clarified, true - the OP on the PAII forum was also speculating before having the facts, as far as I can tell.

The operative word being 'if'.

The innvirginia association website has been promoting this for past month on their site and they have the date as NOV 11.

That is right, El. I just checked the Better Way to Stay website and it says Sunday, November 11: http://www.betterwaytostay.com/current-promotions/bbs-for-vets/
There is no link for currently participating B&Bs, and it says to check back in the fall. I can't find any email from PAII that states the date, or that invites signup for the promotion, yet.

FYI - PAII will be listing non-PAII member inns on the Better Way to Stay website, as Jay announced in a pre-launch posting on the PAII forum. Not in exactly the same way that member inns are listed but listed nonetheless, by state and with a link to their websites. No one - PAII members or otherwise - has yet been told how to sign up for the program this year, so you should continue to watch for information on how to do that. If you have any questions, I would suggest emailing Jay or someone at PAII directly.

Hmmm. Maybe PAII isn't evil, or stupid, after all! Let's hope. Fingers crossed.

They are neither. They are an organization trying to educate and provide advocacy for thousands of completely individual B&Bs in more than one country, all with independent control-freak opinionated owners just like us. Assuming the worst of the few people who have those thankless jobs is really very unkind and inappropriate.
