I am coming to the end of a very long, busy season (like most of you) and I am literally counting the minutes until the guests check out. One of the guests just pulled out of the driveway but left her husband behind. When I asked him what was going on he said that she decided to go shopping for a few hours and will be back to get him “sometime later today”. They are officially checked out of their room, meaning that they’ve taken all their stuff out. I don’t want him hanging around here today! I need a break! Do you allow guests to hang around the B&B after checkout? Oh, and this guy’s a talker. He could talk a hungry dog off a meat wagon, but that’s a rant for another day.

I did today - but don't usually - they were super nice but their car just wouldn't start! had to wait till about 12.30 for the tow truck to come to take them home, wasn't going to make them wait in the car park its bitterly cold today!

As long as they clear out of the room so we can clean (we then lock all the guest room doors) it's usually ok. HOWEVER, if I have plans and no check-ins? No way, Jose. I clear the keypad so no codes are in the door and invite the guests to go have lunch or coffee at a local coffee house.
I know how you feel at this time of year. We just want our own space back.
If it's really an issue, have him call her to come back and get him. If you can avoid him, just lock all the rooms and go take a nap!
No one should assume it's ok to hang around after they've checked out. This is not a hotel lobby.

We had guests who requested an early check-in, discount, special diet and then called while having dinner last night to request a late check-out. They were staying 3 nights and we don't have anyone following them so I caved and told them they could check out at 12:30 as long as I could get into the room while they were at a conference in the AM to strip the bed and grab the other linens. I was kicking myself all night for having given in to them but then.....the wind from the impending storm picked up and ....sure enough they decided to check out before going to their conference instead of coming back to the B+B. Yipeee! It might have helped that I stressed the severity of the storm, and the fact that the only way off this place closes down if the winds are bad.
Also cancelled the reservation for arrival on Thursday next week (no deposit taken yet) so we can deal with the aftermath of this storm without stressing out about guests. It has taken me years to know my limits but I think I finally have it figured out :)

At the last B&B we stayed at, they had everybody out of the house by 10:30 and locked up to go to church. No, definitely not a hotel!

I can definitely relate. After guests check out today we're taking a few days off. Some rooms waited til the very last minute and then some to leave!! We are trying something new this year. We put a plastic chain across the driveway with a sign saying "sorry we're closed" Hope it works! I'm still going to hang some curtains over the doors off the driveway just in case someone walks over the fence and wants to look inside. I really wanted the sign on the fence to say "please RESPECT our privacy and leave us alone" LOL

This is why I am quite happy to not have any bookings for this week. Do not want to have to worry about guests in the house.

Last inn we stayed in was located in a the historic district of a popular tourist town. They had off-street parking there which is pretty rare! In chatting with the innkeeper during our stay, we mentioned that we were meeting our son & dil for a walking tour after check-out on Sunday, She offered that we could leave our car in the car park after check-out since we were only a couple of blocks from the tour starting point & it would be easier than moving our car. (We were due to finish before their check-in time.) We really appreciated this!
I would never have dreamed of going back into the inn common room though. There's just too much to for the innkeepers to do!
