Waiting for guests to arrive tonight. Just got a new toy so wasn't really paying attention to the time. Around 9 PM we start to turn off lights, turn down the heat, etc and I was just going to print out a late arrival. A friend convinced me to call the guests. What if they had storm damage and forgot, etc etc.
I called. Got a very confused person on the phone who told me they would be arriving around 4 PM. I had to say, 'It's 9 PM now.' And there was more confusion. Appears they were not planning to be here today. Nor tomorrow. Nor this week. Nor even this month. Sigh. I moved their rez out to the correct day and month.
No one reads. They don't read when they make the rez, they don't read when the confirmation comes in. I wonder if they made the same error with their plane tix and their car rental.

Excellent point about confused accommodation reservations carrying over to planes and car rentals! Never considered that. I also wonder!
People who don't read deserve what they don't get.

hmmmm ... by any chance is their reservation for April 11?
the reason i ask is that some of the places i've been entering info are using the format with the day of the month followed by the month ... and i have caught myself entering it in the format i'm used to which is month followed by day of the month and then realizing it's wrong. also time ... i was entering start and end times for an event and noticed i had to switch my brain to the 24 hour clock instead of am and pm ... was not given a choice.
seems to be a european thing. ?
anyway, if they didn't read the confirmation which i assume spells out the month (because often guests don't) they'd never see it and catch their mistake
just wondering .....

may be a european thing in some cases as we write the date day/month/year and i know in the US you do it month/day/year - when I studdied for part of my degree in america it confused the heck out of my tutors!

You could type in a date if you wanted to but the calendar is right there. They just picked the wrong month. Not Euros.

oh well ... there goes that theory out the window..
And they blamed it on me. Another 'that's not the date we reserved' complaint. Accused me of changing the date on them. There really isn't a logical reason why I would do that.
Anyway, just means that I get to go on vacation earlier than planned.

I nearly got caught several times like that whilst booking our New England trip. Dates in the UK and I expect most of Europe are nearly always in the format dd-mm-yy.

.
Had that too. They book it online, through our website and then say we got the wrong date.
I had a woman from Australia book 3 nights in December last year and when she didn't turn up I emailed and turned out they were coming in January, same dates. Tried to say we got it wrong even though she booked it.

This is why we give them a confirmation. Remember in Sept I had to keep calling a hotel as they just would not give me a confirmation, there was no way to double check it all. I thought it was automatic, but they said only if you ask for one.
