When John Coltrane plays the melody early in the track Harmonique, you can hear some of the notes crack.
Of course, Coltrane was completely capable of playing these notes correctly. And yet he didn't.
It's this effort and humanity that touches us about his solo, not just the melody.
Sometimes, "never let them see you sweat," is truly bad advice. The work of an individual who cares often exposes the grit and determination and effort that it takes to be present.
Perfecting your talk, refining your essay and polishing your service until all elements of you disappear might be obvious tactics, but they remove the thing we were looking for: you.

Good points. Just because you're good at what you do, and after years of practice you have it mastered, if you make doing it look too easy, people don't see the value in it and resent the price you charge. Part of dealing with the public is showmanship. You just have to weigh that against the self-guilt feelings if you overdo the show!

I have an extremely easy starter I make for breakfast. I'm embarrassed by how easy it is when guests ask how to make it. Sooooo, I roll my eyes while saying, 'Oh, it took HOURS to make this,' they all laugh but it makes it seem more like the 'show' than just saying steps A-B.

Call me hillbilly, but every time I see the title of this thread I say to myself "Paddle faster..." and you know the rest of the saying.
