We close for Thursday, Thanksgiving day to celebrate with dear friends,  but we have a lovely family that regularly books the entire place for Friday and Saturday following the holiday.  Christmas means we hit the road and close from the 24th-28th, reopening for the New Year's period.  December is pretty quiet in this area so we are in wind-down mode anyway.

Here, too. I am SO in wind-down mode right now! Next week we decorate the outside, the following week the inside.

We do not have family come for either holiday. The flatlands between Illinois and WV can go from beautiful to crap in a heartbeat. We prefer safe to having a holiday gathering. The beauty of it is the kids get together because they WANT to, not because they have to go to the Ps. Most of them will gather in Iowa Saturday for Thanksgiving and then everyone does their own traditions for Christmas.

We have friends who come and we adopted (and he, us) the radio guy. I missed it Tuesday when he said on air he was looking forward to going to Shinnston for dinner at the Gillum House when he finished his duties at the station Thursday morning. They are our family for the holidays.

This year we also had a family of three. They ran the Turkey Trot this morning and were at the table for dinner. Now we go seethe camel.

Update

This is what took place with the camel: http://www.gillumhouse.com/blog/what-did-you-do-on-thanksgiving-joe/

We don't usually have a lot of biz on either of these holidays, but we are open.

We are open for all three.... (Canadian & American Thanksgiving as well as Christmas). Being in the city, we have lots of people visiting their family... or sometimes hiding from their family. We are already booked full on the evening of the 24th of December.

Gotta have an "OTHER"

As it is never the same, from year to year, so you might want to say FOR THIS YEAR. Smiling  As Bob shared they are closed THIS YEAR, but not last.  We were closed LAST YEAR but not this, for Thanksgiving.
