and on and on...
I guess I did a good job of getting our name out there while we were in business. Almost 3 years after closing, we are still getting calls! (Our old biz number became my dh's mobile phone number because he liked the number and we figured we could refer people other places for awhile.) I contacted Yahoo Local Business for the umpteenth time again to get our listing off there! I had previously deleted the listing, deactivated the account, and contacted their customer service. Yet there it is...
Google maps took us off right away but there are several new (?) hotel, motel listing type sites that have gotten the info somehow and there we are with our location and photos! I was able to send a notice to one of those today and we'll see if that goes away.
My dh got a phone call yesterday and a gentleman was begging him for a recommendation other than the remaining B&B (not sure why he didn't want to stay there as dh didn't ask). He was disappointed that we are down to only one B&B in our town.
Meanwhile, there are still people here in town that had no clue we had a B&B.... hahahaha... :)

13 years after the OO's left we still get phone calls and their mail. 8 years after the PO's left ditto. Had a collection agency tell us we owed them hundreds of dollars for something the PO bought and returned.
I contacted TA about 5 years ago to let them know someone had listed a hotel in another state under the B&B's in my town. It's still there. Another B&B closed, sold and is now a private home. Its listing is still there although the website domain is for sale.
It's not just the internet! It's all those biz cards and maps and brochures!

And the same goes for images, pics of rooms redecorated years back are still floating out there in the cyber world. - The downside of posting pics on free directories that are now defunct but someone has them as ad farms with the old data, no way to have OUR old data removed.
The website of the other B&B in town that closed in '05 is still up, someone has it as a ad farm as well. All the data just as she had it is still on the site. I thought that she had changed her phone number but not long ago we had someone call here after speaking with her. They said she rattled on and on about why she closed, never mentioning we were open!!! (not surprising, an odd one)

Yep, there are some images out there, too! A lot of that stuff I only got when I did a specific search on our B&B name. I know that is next to impossible to get rid of. When I search our town & bed and breakfasts though and stuff still comes up, that's what I've been working to get deleted. It's interesting what these sites manage to scrape off from cached info...

Gheez this got me to thinking. I thought I had gotten rid of a whole bunch of listings 7 years ago!! LOL So just for kicks I google us. There we are still in many listings...including the stupid yell ow pa ges which I never put us on and have told numerous times when they called to delete us!! Oh well. Now I know why we still get the occasional call during peak times.

I don't know how many TA listings I have asked them to close. They had some restaurants that had closed 5 years ago. And some closed B&Bs. I do the same on Google, except they are quicker to react than TA.There are still many many closed places on TA.
