A U.S. Department of Commerce U.S. Census Bureau Form? It says it's mandatory and is asking for all sorts of income/expense questions for 2012 business. I don't even know all the figures because I haven't gotten all my tax numbers prepared yet. It's due by 2/12/13 and "YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW".
Will they be comparing the figures to my tax filing? To have this done by 2/12/13 I would have to guess on some figures.
Anyone else have to do this??? I double checked, and it is legit.

We got one of those late last summer. I filled it out online, there should be an option for that. Check the time period that they want the data for, I don't recall it being tied to the tax year exactly, but I could be wrong.

They do have the online option which I started, but I stopped because I was afraid to guess on the operating expenses and net income, etc.

They certainly didn't give you any time to do it, did they? In most places it would take 2 weeks just for that form to get to the proper office!

I've actually had it for awhile but I've been burying my head in the sand hoping it will go away!

I can't ignore it anymore. Ugh!

I did a little looking online and it said there's a $100 fine and possible imprisonment if you don't fill it out, and a $500 fine if you fill it out but lie about stuff. But another site said those amounts are outdated and the numbers now are $1000 and $5000. It also said that it's highly unlikely that you'd get in any trouble if you ignore it, but that the could prosecute if they wanted to, and they'd win. They prosecute a few around the country each year just to make examples of people.
It's like jury duty. You can't ignore the summons to serve even though it's inconvenient and you really really don't want to do it!

I had a client email it to me yesterday with the subject line "URGENT!". The due date says Tuesday! I procrastinate enough on my own without my clients helping out!!

Glad to know I'm not the only procrastinator out there! LOL

This is your one and only warning - put a sock in it. You sent your message on enough threads. keep it up and the All-Powerful Wizard will discomnnect you. Intelligent comments accepted. Spam and promos are not.

I got that one; filled it out based on my Quickbooks fiscal year reporting. That will be tweaked a bit when I get everything in for my taxes, but I didn't see any indication that it would be used to check against my Schedule C. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, though.
