And started a twitter account. Now what?
Did you link it to your FB business page?
How do you get people to follow you?
JB, I found you and followed you, but how does one find the interesting people/business to follow? I'm not interested in following celebrities, etc.
Any tips or help is appreciated!

Very timely as I'm about to get into Twitter and need to link to FB too. All ears!

Arky, they make it easy to link to your biz page or personal page, I'm just not sure if that's a great idea or not. Does one want all tweets to go to the biz page? I'm glad I'm not the only novice Arky!

Welcome to the Club BD & Arkie. I have had a Twitter acct but rarely tweeted and definitely do not know from a hole in the wall what I am doing with it. I follow very few and IF I am getting tweets - I do not know it. Played with it a bit today.
I have been learning within the last week how to use fb with my blog. had some hits from fb on my tracker - one from Boston today just minutes after posting a link and doing a share about the Bu y L oc al campaign WVU students are doing here - they asked me to post a link to the monkey to survey. Am going to do that with posts from now on. Just wish I knew enough to resize the blog area on WP.

I have added people or things of interest for my visitors and a few other B&Bs. I also have it automatically post from FB when I add something there.

I thought it went the other way, with posts to the FB biz page going to the Twitter biz page. That would be OK I guess.

I am not a big Twitter user. But, I do have the FB page spit out into the Twitter feed. I also set up the notifications so if anyone retweets or joins or mentions us I get an email.
You can follow some interesting people who you already know as a start. (I'm not interesting, but you can follow me if you want.) What that will do is tell Twitter what kinds of people you might like and you'll start to see suggested people to follow.
If you find someone you want to follow, then go into their list of followers and click away and follow the same people, if you like them. I do the same thing on FB if I come across someone posting the kinds of stuff I need to know. I'll see who they like and like those same people if they fit.
(Why I don't use Twitter...it's too much of an overload for me. I am very easily distracted. Which is why I turn the sound off on everything. No email message notices, stuff like that.)

I also have a tweeter account and have my FB feed to tweeter. I do it this was as I am more comfortable with FB but I do see some of my FB friends using it in reverse. It is all in what makes life easier for you. I tend to be more like Maddie, easily distracted.
Similar to FB, the more you like (or follow on tweeter) the more suggestions you get of the same type. For me it is not a fast process but all Social media is the way of the future, present day future anyway until the next new thing comes about!
You can also follow me - ;0

I am 100% onboard with twitter. It is my fav social media, and I use it in many ways. This is where I get all my great information, news, events, etc etc. Got PRE sale tickets to a big rock n roll show from this, before they went on sale to the public.
Hard for me to explain it.
It is not the Tweet HASHTAG# that it started out as, most use if for information now, sharing blog posts, articles, photos, links. I only follow positive people, if they gripe, rant, use profanity, or are not very humorous I won't follow them.
So all that to say, what I post on FB is not the same as what I post on Twitter.
From the blog I have SHARE BUTTONS and when I post a new blog article (even predated) it goes automatically to twitter, then I click G+ and FB if I want to, but I have been using larger photos for FB, people don't click on the thumbnails in articles in their feed.
I have many great resources and people I trust in the biz from Twitter. In my state tourism and elsewhere.
Last point, which seems totally anti what I just wrote.
Twitter allows you 140 characters in a tweet
So you will need to use URL shorteners, and such if you want to link to your blog articles, and be creative. This is a great tool. Learning to write in byte sized sentences.

I never have been good at short when it comes to talking or writing, only when it comes to my height!

In the last 5 hours I have been tweeted 11 times by 1 of the 3 followers I have in my new account. This is industry related, but on a different continent. Isn't that over kill? It's not someone I follow and I don't know how they found me.

It's being retweeted by someone you do follow more than likely. And, yes, this is why I am not a big fan...there can be a bit of overkill.

Nope, not RT. These are directly from them and all a bit different. Does anyone know if I block them, will they know? It's pretty bad when I'm thinking about blocking one of my 3 followers! LOL
UPDATE: I unfollowed them. I went back onto their profile and saw that in the last 13 hours they tweeted 25 times and all of it was trying to get you to use their innsitting services. This is a good lesson for me on what NOT to do!

That is total overkill. You're supposed to 'engage' not 'enrage'.

I got a Twitter request to follow someone at the very beginning. I figured it would be fun. No it wasn't. Although it's calmed down a bit now, this person tweeted every 5 minutes. I had to unfollow just so I could see who else was tweeting.

short answer - yes you can block twitter people - this is like an example I use all the time of a "what not to do" with twitter - carpet company tweeted about 8 tweets a day, all I love carpets, buy your mum a carpet and so on - dull as a stick - these are people I never ever want to speak to!
I always say social media is like being on a first date with someone you are really keen on - shouting I love carpets at them all the date will not get you back on a 2nd one! you have to be funny and witty and it doesn't have to be about what you do all the time - its ive seen this and its really funny, or this is a fun fact and so on -

you can set it up that only selected tweets go to your facebook page ie you have to put #something at the beginning of the tweet to put it on your facebook page.
For example I have a google alert for my town set up - pops up with an article about a show - I go to the article and then tweet from the share button which also then populates my facebook and shows a pretty thumbnail - easy peasy

How do you get the Tweets? I have an account and about 12 followers but only get an e-mail about once a day fromTwitter - here are some tweets that might interest you.

The idea is not to have the tweets sent to you via email but that you log onto your Twitter account/feed and interact with them live. (If that's what you were asking.) You can turn off that email, too, if you don't want it. I think there is a link right in the email.

Actually, I think the point is to have the tweets sent to your phone as SMS text messages (that's what they are, afterall).
