Hi,
I'm new to the forum and need some qualified reviews.
A friend of mine opens a B&B on May 1st this year and I'm doing his website. Although I think I've done everything right I need some reviews for usability. Did I miss something, is it good looking/does it feel good?
have a look, please: http://www.schollese.de/en/
Thank you so much in advance for every statement that helps me to improve the website.

Welcome to the forum Marc! You have come to the right place. You may get more than you bargained for, but you know that is free advice from professional innkeepers from all over the USA and world!

Eric first impression, get some larger images with better resolution.
I realize there is a translation going on here, so I would be sure instead of "stating the obvious" ie "Our breakfast room" use some adjectives to say how wonderful the breakfast will be in that room.
"Our lounge with leather sofa" instead use adjectives, and let the reader (ie future visitor) picture themselves there, "Kick back in our lounge after a day exploring the beautiful countryside"
A photo of the outside of the building is required, people need to know where they are staying, AND what to look for once on the road.
Remember you are not selling a bed, or room, you are selling an experience!
Have fun!

Thank you for the nice and warm welcome. I'm not the innkeeper, I'm just setting up their website because they're friends of mine (they immigrated to Germany from England to open their B&B - funny, isn't it?)
@Joey: You are absolutely right. I have to get better pictures - but we had to take them during winter with my old camera because the new one didn't work. They're terrible but better ones will come soon - I want to have a slideshow or something like that on the landing page. I didn't know what to put as the pictures titles. You gave me the right push what to do there. As soon as the weather is better, sunny and the first flowers are blooming we will take pictures of the outside. There's one available, but it is black and white and doesn't look good enough to be put on the website. Point taken. :)

This is great, I will remember this! Thank you for your help so far!

Not bad ....you have covered all the bases. I might rearrange the navigation a bit to put the more important things first as people read left to right.
I think you need a real WOW image on the home page header to attract folks. I would also like to be able to click on smaller images to view a full size photo maybe using Lightbox.
Do check your spelling. I saw several as I quickly scanned things.
Other than that, I think it just needs to be "personalized" a bit as JB says. Make it about the experience not just getting heads into beds.
Good luck.

Thank you, EmptyNest. I thought the navigation was ok, but I'll try to rearrange the stuff.
Maybe it would be better to put it this way:
Welcome // Guest rooms // Prices // Holiday home (as this is only an additional feature because the innkeepers have it already) // Enquiries // Location Map // Guestbook // Links // Tipps // About us
The thing with the spelling is, that I get the texts from my friend. And they put in many spelling errors that I already corrected. Maybe I find a tool that checks the spelling - my english is obviously not good enough to find them all...
With all the good tipps here I'll do my best over the weekend! Lots of work to do :) Thank you all so much!

If you take a look at some of the member's sites here up under featured inn you will get some ideas as to what we are referring to.
You should tell your friends that they need at the very least an On LIne availability calendar and better yet, on line reservations. People browse for lodging accommodations at any hour of the day or night and want to see what is available right then and there and not bother just sending an inquiry. Then, they want the option of being to book right then and there. You may want to have your friends look at Reservation Key web based system. We love it!
Rather than putting captions on photos until you can get a bit more creative, just remove captions. And make sure you have alt text for all images.
My suggestion for Navigation would be these: Don't make the rates page a separate page. Put all that information right on each room page so people do not need to search anywhere else for it. Make it simple.
WELCOME | ABOUT | ROOMS & RATES | HOLIDAY HOME | LOCATION | LINKS | TRAVEL TIPS ( assume this is a blog??? | CONTACT
I would not put the Guestbook on main navigation. Maybe put it in the sidebar as a widget. It is not that important to take up space on the main menu. Most US sites do not use a guest book, but rather Comments page. Guest book is pretty old school these days.
Can you remove this from the footer? Suffusion theme by Sayontan Sinha, People don't need t see that. Check your footer.php and edit there.
I am not sure what that site info widget is all about, but it is not something I would want to show public. Not needed.
good luck.
