I think I may have found a really good mattress pad today! It's puffy and it has much stronger side panels than the ones I've seen elsewhere. It's been thru the wash and didn't fall apart. Big test is after guests check out on Wed and I try to put it on a bed. If it covers the entire top of the bed then I'm off to buy a bunch more. My others have been in the loop for 7 years and it is time to retire them. Any stain resistance they had has been washed away even tho they are still really fluffy.
Once it's on the bed and I find out if it's easy to install and if it really fits I'll let you know where I got it and the name. I know I have a bear of a time finding mattress pads that are what I like. I will buy spares.
Also scored some new pillowcases on deep clearance.
Got drapes and artwork for a newly redone room.
All in all a good shopping day!

I'm looking for some too. I found some that I liked, and they washed well, but when I later bought more, they had changed the side panels to darn near cheese cloth. Sigh...isn't that always the way?
Sounds like a day well "spent".

Yes, that was my problem. I bought these really great ones form Overstock. They came with JCP labels on them. I have looked for those same ones and cannot find them. The same top fabric but not the same loft and they are ALL backed with that crappy poly 'cloth' now instead of cotton.
The last ones I bought were way too expensive and don't even cover the top of the mattress. And they shift all over the bed, bunching up at the corners.

Yup, everything is getting more cheaply made, smaller sized (thinking the coffee I just bought). They think we won't notice. I would rather pay more and get the same quality. I put my finger right through the last one I bought making the bed.

OK, mattress pad report...very high loft! Makes the bed look like a big, puffy cloud! But...pad does not go all the way to the edge of the mattress. I find this with all of them now. How many people actually sleep all the way on the edge of the bed where it would be a problem? I'm hoping the 1" gap at the edge is not an issue. I would rather the pad draped over a bit.
Anyhoo...BB&B sells this http://www.therapedic.com/bedding/mattress-pads/therapedic-500-mattress-pad/
With one of their ubiquitous 20% off coupons it comes to about $54 for a queen size. I paid $80 for one from JCP that I am not happy with at all. This one has good elastic sides on it, not easily-poked-thru mesh. It went on super easy, too. Fit in the washer and dryer (front loader). It doesn't have that 'crinkly' sound some of them do.
More later after I see how it stays put when someone actually sleeps on it!

I just bought a new Cal vin Kline mattress pad from TJMx...on sale for $29. It was nice and puffy but the side panels were crap....some sort of odd material that was thin and not too stretchy. Back it went. When you find a good one, buy it!
