I had to call Sams club and then hit 1 for account info.
The recording quickly told me that I can check my account online, make a payment, see when my bill is due or I can speak with a customer service representative, and that would cost $15.
Interesting I thought, as I was on the line to samsclub, someone called us about availability for graduation weekend in May. She listened to the message and then said "I want to know what rooms you have available for May 4th, then I will go online and book it and save $10."

So by booking online here, you do save $10, but this is not after you consume an hour or so of the innkeeper's time.
Maybe I should change the message to:
  • Please visit our website....to save $10 and check availability and reserve your room online.
  • Please press 1 if you would like to pay $10 and speak to the innkeeper.

More like... time to switch wholesale clubs. Take a look at this article from Harvard Business Review http://hbr.org/2006/12/the-high-cost-of-low-wages/ar/1
A lot of businesses have horrible customer service. They make it impossible to actually reach a human. And for that reason it makes it hard to have any brand loyalty.

I am astonished. Really. But it happens everywhere. No one wants to pay a real person to answer the phone. Especially not that family.
My mom's old bank charged if you went inside and stood in line to conduct business with a teller. Go outside and use the ATM for free.

Yeah well, I had to call, you know me by now, I will do everything online that I can! And that was so bad I had to call. This is DH's little dandy, he gets a certain brand of energy bars there and I beg to NEVER go into this store. But am roped in once in a while, tricked, really.
We don't have Costco or anything else, just Sams.

:) You got that right!
They're Arkies, you know. One of the heirs married a girl who was my Sunday School teacher as a child (she was just in high school then, herself). But they're definitely not my favorite people! Can't believe they charge to talk to a real person. The company became shameless after Sam died.
