Vacation starts tomorrow (back in two weeks). In any case, the funny thing is that today is the day to clean out the fridge. So the limes get turned into curd. The eggs, flour and ricotta get turned into crepes and blintzes. The bagels are lunch. The asparagus, dinner. It's the day we clean out what we can't save from the fridge. Two apples, two bananas and two clemantines are left too, not enough for a jam :) Everything left in the fridge is a fritata for dinner.
What crazy things do you do before you go away?

Oddly enough, it's been a damn productive day. Yesterday we found out that one of our contact forms wasn't working, so we got it fixed today.
We we trying to set up an auto-responder for when they fill out forms, we tried a number of ways and they all didn't work. Well, the new contact form now sends out an auto-responder for us when people send us a filled in contact form. And we got that working in two different languages.
Made the beds, doing the laundry, cleaning the rooms and setting everything up, so that it's all done when I get home, except for a light dusting.
Got my freezer filled with stuff from what was left in the fridge, so I have stuff for when we come back from vacation. Printed out all the confirmations, reservations and even some other information for the trip. Even reserved seats on the airplane... hope no one sits between us, because I took D and F and worst case scenario, we will ask them to switch to D and we can take EF, but if not, we have an extra seat between us. Finished the taxes (they aren't due until the end of the month) and paid all the sales taxes. And I put in extra cash on my tax fund just in case. I also made sure all the CC were clear, called them up to tell them that we are travelling....
Maybe I should pack next? :D

Before I went to Europe, we took everything from the freezer to the freezer locker, ate, gave away, or threw out everything in the fridge, opened the door and unplugged it. Had to do a mad, grab shopping on the way home because people were coming in the next day.

Dang. I don't usually do anything but make sure the trash is out and the water to the washing machines is turned off. I don't think I've ever cleaned the fridge to go away. I do try not to buy anything in the days before.

After we had a water pipe break in the finished basement, we always shut the water main off, open the upstairs faucets and the ones in the basement and do a partial drain of the pipes. Sure beats the mess we came home to.

Our last guests... left this morning. So we still needed to serve breakfast. A lot of things will be fine in the fridge until we get back, like the milk. (Milk is microfiltered and lasts 30 days in the fridge. The eggs are good until we get back. Everything else was eaten or disposed of. Luckily tonight is garbage collection, because we have actually taken our garbage to the airport with us in the past, so it doesn't stink up the place :)
I'm doing the last load of laundry, then I will shut down the washer's taps. But I also have special feeds to the washer that shut themselves if the water rushes out too quickly, may be Watts.

I'll be in the same boat, but it won't be too bad. They arrive the day after we are back and I can shop in the morning. Every room is clean and set up for the next guest. I will have dusting and the vacuum when we come back. And being that we are coming back from Europe, the jet lag will get me up early in the morning, so I won't miss breakfast :)

Turn off the gas: propane is heavier than air and can collect. I don't trust those gas fireplaces.
Bon voyage!

Made it to Ponta Delgada, Azores today. Going to spend the day on shore walking around, since we have been here before. Found free wifi! woohoo! But I'm not going to catch up on reading. Just droping a hello note. Enjoy the day!

Got any photos from the Azores to share?
Here is what I do to prepare for vacation, and this is the part about where I am that I love. I top off the water tanks; stuff the refrigerator, freezer, pantry, and bar with all I can; apply sunscreen; unplug the shorepower; start the generator; turn on the KVH sat dish to keep a lock on DirectTV; press the "start" buttons on the helm; blow one long blast on the horn; and back out. Then, autopilot and a glass of champagne, unless I'm being the captain, then just autopilot. Never have to pack a single bag since I get to take everything I own, even the kitchen sink, with me. :)

I'm traveling with a Prius that seems like it's loaded with everything I own, at least the essential Indiana wine and Deneen mugs.
My next stop is to see the firstborn in the next generation in Granby, Mass. Am I near Seashanty or anyone else there?

Okay so I have to admit, as I see your royal-ness on your avatar, and the thought of the not so armoured entourage, but the prius and indiana wine, me thinks it is pretty funny how this world has changed. :)
