I just got a rez from a guest who will now be a repeat. I went and checked my online notes and showed they were here 5 years ago! And we were their first B&B stay! I will make a note to ask them if they have enjoyed other B&B's in that time since. Just passing through, but chose us, so I am happy about that.
This weekend I have had three other first time B&B goers...one just checked in and grabbed a dark chocolate brownie and said "Yeah this IS different to a hotel" I thought that was sweet.

Makes you feel good doesn't it!

My oven is broken. It's raw on the inside, burnt on the outside no matter what I try to bake. I'm handing out store bought snacks. And getting used to it!!! But having to admit I did not bake that cake/bread/cookie.

A warm & fuzzie feeling spreads throughout when you hear a first-timer say - I am only going to stay in B & Bs from now on. I am so pleased for you they are coming back. Just shows what a great innkeeper you are.
Had a couple from Staten Island stay here as a mid-point stop going and returning for a week of vacation where they were booked into a large B & B. I happened to be on the porch when he got out of the car on their return and heard him say -" It feels good to be home!" My ego hit the stratosphere!! It felt sooooo good to hear.

It is good to hear! Just said good-bye to a family that has been coming here for 10yrs. They say it is like coming to see family. We have watched their kids grow up to be young teens.

One of our guests here for 4 nights are through Booking. First time B&B guests. They told us at breakfast today that they are hooked... no more hotel hopping for them. And I told them how to search - no more booking engines!!!

I love 1st timers. They show up at the door with a look on their face you can recognize. You know, the "what have I gotten myself into" look. By the next day they are changed people! Relaxed, rested, happy, can't believe what they lucked into.
Right now I have 1 couple who says they go to b&bs all the time. After the first breakfast, they say "she doesn't eat cheese". They want to know everything about the area but don't want to read it in all the literature I put at their fingertips. They are given 4 different flavors of fancy chocolate to choose from...they want one we don't have. Grrrr
Give me first timers and repeats. LOVE THEM!!!

With the kind of heat we have been having here in southern NE I kinda wish my oven was broken. Then I'd have an excuse not to bake and heat the whole house! Teehee
Take a break Maddie and go with it. Most folks will be OK with store-bought goodies, especially if you explain the circumstances.

It's killing me. The heat I mean. We don't have A/C here on our side of the house.

sounds like you should invest in a mini split for yourselves! or at least a window air conditioner for your lr or bedroom,
why should you suffer like this? more on the way here.

Second timers last night. They phoned out of the blue yesterday afternoon looking for a room. This morning at breakfast they said they'd only stayed at one other B&B. That experience wasn't good for them. This time they were happy with the bed, the breakfast and said they'd be more likely to chose B&Bs over hotels in the future!

Glad they gave you the chance to change that bad experience that someone else made.
So many try one and if it is a nightmare, they never darken another. Strange that most lump us all in the same pot, but don't do that with any other industry - like restaurants or small shops.

Excellent! I'm so glad they gave b&bs another chance and they chose YOU for their stay!

Will be installing a window A/C tomorrow in the office. There is one in the bedroom but I can't sit in there all day!
Problem with me is I hate the noise. I hate the 'cold spot' right in front of the unit, which is where my desk is. But we have to do something. It's early days and it only gets worse. We didn't even need A/C when we moved here!
All the guests have mentioned the lousy weather here. Hotter than Texas. People not used to the humidity are really suffering.
At least I can sleep at night with just the fan on.

We always try to let newbies know to keep trying if they find a place that just doesn't suit them.

For the third time in 17 years, I got a booking FROM a funeral home here in town. About 10 years after we opened one funeral home made reservations for the funeral directors bringing a lady home for burial. Then in our 14th year, the funeral home across the street actually sent us a guest. Yesterday I got a cll from the third funeral home as the family members were having difficulty (could not) finding a room.
Turns out this was their first time at a B & B and they were asking for biz cards and one of the ladies was on her cell this morning with someone and telling them how wonderful the bred & breakfast was and how good the breakfast was...... CONVERTS!!! I pointed out we are all different and some serve continental because that is all they are permitted to serve rather than by choice and how every profession has the misfits BUT people do not stop going to hotels/motels/restaurants if they have one bad experience and we hope that if they run into a bad experience they will keep going to B & Bs.
I love helping get CONVERTS!!!
