If you are not desperate, but you have open rooms for an upcoming weekend, and you'd really rather have heads in beds, and are considering a BOGO or other lure...
  • On what day of the week, before the weekend, and at what time on that day, would you post special pricing?
  • Considering FB and other social media, your blog, and your homepage, and other?, where would you make said offer?
  • What's a logical amount to knock off without risking bringing in the Motel 5.5 crowd?
  • Would you impose a 2 night minimum?
  • Other thoughts?

My situation is different as we tend to get a lot of walk-in traffic. However, if a last minute cancel comes up, I'll post a pic of the room on fb as soon as the room opens.
I don't discount.
I will also call the tourist info centers to tell them. They can't refer but they can say they heard there were openings at such and such.

I use the state tourist office. I will discount but learned long ago not to do a BOGO with the last min spenders as they don't understand the concept! Give them a 15-20% discount max. Depending on your location / why are people traveling to or are they traveling though? That is how to determine if you could impose a 2 night min. If it is last min, many are just wanting a quick escape from the real world for cheap.
