I know I don't like them.
What I find really bad, and yes, some places still do this is holding my email until I reply back explaining that I am a real person.
I have a Captcha on my site. But I also tell people if they don't like forms, just use the email link at the bottom of the page.

We may not like them..but...do you want tons of spam?? I don't. I use ASKIMET on many of my sites. And it does seem to work. But hackers are another issue..need to have some protection from them as well. My hosting company was experimenting with some last week and I got so many complaints and questions from clients trying to log into their site, they got fed up with them and got rid of it. Of course they do things in the background to try and prevent this but wanted another level of security.

We don't have them on the rez program, so that is okay!
But I understand the article and the frustration. Majority of my CAPTCHA emails are still junk and useless! haha

I could never get the captcha to work to pay my toll-free bill. Every month I was having to call them to help me get the freakin' bill so I could pay it. (A paper bill in the mail would generate an $8 charge to ME for them to send me THEIR invoice!) I finally got them to fix it so I just login with a password. If it were not for my sister-in-law who has no money being able to call with the toll-free (a whole other story), I would dump it.

What about the math question you need to answer when logging in here to Innspiring? That's a form of CAPTCHA that I think works pretty well...

I've never understood how a math problem can work so well. In captchas they do all kinds of work to disguise the letters so a computer can't easily read them. But in the math question, the numbers are perfectly normal, so any computer robot can read them, and if there's one thing a computer can then do, it's add simple numbers!

Most Captchas must think I'm a computer because it takes me at least 4 tries to figure them out. So I really appreciate the math problems

The ones you can't read are the worst!
Possible Solution for those of you that have your websites built on Wordpress -
You can install the (free) plugin Contact Form 7. This lets you create a custom contact form quit easily and you can choose to use a capcha or not. While I would recommend it, as it will help you to avoid spam, the captcha is quite simple, in that it only asks the visitor to enter in 4 very clear, legible letters and numbers.
Here's a link to the plugin's page on the Wordpress Plugin Directory: http://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/
Hope this helps! Do get in touch if you have any questions! This is what I do! :)
