He called, wanted a ton of information. planning this major trip. Wanted my advice on everything. When I call him back it is 45 minutes long. He expects emails of information and itineraries.
He books a room, cheapest in the house, i don't know his financial situation but he is a big wig in his field and lives in a prominent location, very exclusive, as I have been there.
He then emails with his dates for the rest of his trip expecting me to plan and give him all the things not to be missed from point a to point b (not even in this area).
Before I can respond to last night's email, I awake to his cancellation email this morning.
I guess I forgot to say "How high?" when he told me to jump.
good riddens.
DH said to send a reply $50 an hour to help plan his trip. Because I didn't respond the way he wanted, he dumped the rez.
ALWAYS THE WAY...
PS In case anyone forgot "I AM AN INNKEEPER"

But now he is not going to be calling every step of the way.
Maybe I am glad now I did not go out of my way for the same kind of emailer. Plan his vacation. Didn't want the already planned vacation, wanted me to do something particular just for him.
So, does this mean if we WANT to do this sort of planning we need to hold onto to the plans until arrival?
A few years back, 6 or so I think, I put together a list of FIFTY things for this family to do with all age groups, infirmities, etc. I listed those events that needed prebooking as well. Another innkeeper, who had more of the same family at their place, put together another list (all at the guest's request).
When they got here what did we hear every stinkin' day for a week? 'What should we do today?' When I suggested the same things that were on the list none of it was good. They wanted to do things where they wouldn't run into other tourists. In August. You run into tourists on the worst 100 miles of the AT in August. Way out in the back of beyond. You can't get away from tourists in August.

Next time that happens give them a highlighted map to me! Dead here in August. You will get your point across crystal clear!

I would have pointed him to the worst and cheapest place in town. Let him spend his money getting the BB out of his luggage.

People seem to think I know every B&B owner in the Highlands, we're going here and then there, can you recommend B&Bs.
I Don't Know. Use the Internet like everyone else, even if I did know a good B&B in these places chances are they'd be full this time of year.

I always ask guests where there next stop is while they're having breakfast. Along the lines of EAB's other post, I am quite often finding them accommodations in the next town. (Mostly to get business for my friends.) IF there is anything open.

I do that too and if they are going south, try to get them to JB

I'll do that if I have a friend where they're going, but then if they are full you kind of feel obligated to try other people and we're back to planning peoples holidays for them.
