While most of us rely heavily on internet presence for market and correspondence, who are we missing?
This topic came to me after I received a call yesterday morning. The woman called to ask a couple of questions before checking in. She said she was wanting to send me an email after receiving her confirmation (via email) but did not know how. She said she was new to the internet. Taking note of her age at check in I would say mid to late 20's.
So I did a search on the subject (for US) this morning. While this recent article trends on political it has some of the most recent data. "Slightly more than half of Americans 65 and older use the Internet, compared with well over three-quarters of those under 65." It also mentions that the lowest use is in the south.

Where and when is a 20 year old new to the internet?
I was so sure the are connected always. According to PAII they are connected to all ways of internet.

Seriously! I was amazed when she walked in the door. And she was not uneducated, just uneducated in use of email. She had found us on the internet, this I know for a fact. I don't know how long it took her to do so though!
This is not the first time I have had someone tell me they did not know how to respond to an email but it is the first that I recall being under 30. Her hubby seemed very intelligent and has a good job as we happened upon that topic during conversation. This said to state it was not lack of funds or assess to help getting started.

I've read that most people under 20 don't use e-mail. They only use text messages for contact. So it's possible one could be new to e-mail, but I don't see how someone in their 20's is new to the Internet unless she was raised in an unusual family or religious group or something.

It's true. Our grandchildren were born each clutching an iPhone.

haha that is good one. The old days they were clutching a dollar coin. In our family we had a baby try and clutch any coin we started with a nickel then worked our way up . What ever he or she could hold on to was theirs to keep.

Actually DH would not know how to even power on. He absolutely refuses to know anything about computers. The only thing he does know all too well is Goo gle this for me or order that for me......

Smartphones and the advent of other new technologies has dramatically changed the Internet usage among the teens. 95% of teens use the internet. We can't deny that email usage has been decline among the youth. They prefer the other networking sites and apps.

I like it when I can tell they have just read on my web site exactly the answer to the question they call me to ask.
