Trip Info article - http://www.tripinfo.com/ITM/Articles2013/ITM5849.html
Excerpt: The TSA will launch an application program later this year for PreCheck, which lets travelers fill out an online application and provide fingerprints. Applicants must pay an $85 enrollment fee for a five-year term of eligibility.
So for a mere $85 you can, IF they deem you OK, keep your shoes, light jacket, AND belt on. You will not have to worry about picking up athlete's foot nor losing your britches.

I'm planning to wear my boots on the plane next year. And hold up the line to get them off and on. I thought about wearing slip ons but the boots weigh more and and won't fit in the suitcase. I'll probably put on a few sweaters, too, to save space.

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure I've been the guy in line behind you more than once!

I still can't figure out why they haven't discovered this weird little invention that will make the whole queue move faster... the shoehorn! You can get steel ones with a hole for tying them down for a whole $2 at the store. And the ones you can use while still standing up.

weve pointed out at our local airport - there is a place to sit to get them off - no place on the other side to put them on again! they are getting it sorted!

Most airports, in my experience, are the other way around.
