We really do try our best to garner positive Trip Adv reviews. Honest. Occasionally there's a negative

. Overwhelmingly there's the positive.

Then there's THIS one....which is psychotic

:
"Stayed here for one night. Pleasant, very clean, and staff is very helpful and friendly. Quiet, nice size rooms. Decor is little too "country frou-frou" for my taste but was fine overall. Would stay here again for a short stay."
Go figure...give us a pat on the back but....you just gotta throw in your personal "taste" in decor? FROU-FROU????
Sheesh.

Yes, that's how it is. All the compliments, but they just have to thrown in a "cut" and of course that's what you focus on from the review. Anybody would. It cuts to the quick. You know that, on the whole, it's a very positive review, but it's hard to see the big picture when somebody has criticized what you work so hard on.
I don't have any helpful words, except to say that you've done nothing wrong, and to repeat that "time heals all".

Eveveyone has different tastes.Nothing against you personally so do not worry about it.
different strokes for different folks.

Everyone's a critic now. All this social media stuff gets people thinking that the general public really cares what the 'author' thinks. Others reading it will know it's just the writer's personal taste. Where it counts, they gave you kind words.
Overall, it's a very good review. Don't respond to it.

Are you country? Are you from frou?
She wrote it as a negative, but is it something you can promote or is she totally off the mark?
just asking, I don't know your place. I know one guest here thinks we are upscale and another acts like we are a home stay or something...

we had one once that said we "weren't what he was expecting at all" - weird cos we have tons of pictures on our web site, reviews, etc what exactly were you expecting?

It seems as though some people feel they have to say something negative in reviews, it's a matter of taste and you can't cater for all.

It's the ones who hate the decor who should really stay somewhere else. It's not like it's a big secret what the rooms look like. My decor reviews tend toward 'dated' and 'grandma's house'. I'm formulating a new mgmt response policy about these comments. Ignoring them.
It's the ones who don't write reviews but who tell me, 'We just went to xyz store and bought the exact quilts, etc because we want our room to look like the one we had here,' who I wish would write and say that exact thing on TA.

Friends just got a review that ended with 'This is definitely not a six star hotel.' Everything else was fine, but they threw in something that doesn't even make sense. Of course they're not a hotel of any rank.

Yeah, I just got a review that was all so wonderful then they said, that they were too warm at night and that They had their windows open and the fan on and were tempted to turn the AC thermostat in the hall to even cooler but didn't.
Wait a minute... the AC was on and they had their window wide open on a muggy warm night???? huh???
I haven't responded to it yet.... not sure how to...

"The A/C does not work if the windows are left open on a muggy, warm night."

I don't solicit TA reviews ever. I donated a room to our church. The guest felt compelled to write a review. He liked the stay but gave 4 bubbles instead of 5, so he took me down a notch in the over-all ratings. Don't you love the help your free guests give you? Guess he must have thought that a free stay should not be overly effusive.

Had a guest leave this morning and ask about 'other' review sites instead of TA. He said he doesn't believe half of what is written there because it's all too positive. Lovely. Wonder what he wants to say.
