Thurston posted this on the PAII Forum. It is important enough that I felt it needed to be here also as a warning.
I had received a request for price and availability early Sept and did answer her. Now I get this from the same person. They are always trying new ways to scam us!

Subject: Re: room
I am writing to inform you that we have received a formal complaint about
your hotel regarding bed bugs on our website, Complaints Central
(http://complaintsite.wordpress.com/). The complaint status is
currently: UNPUBLISHED. Once published on several complaint websites, the
complaint will be on the first page of all search engines.
In this day and age, the internet can be accessed by any company or client
around the globe researching your hotel. Friends, new and old clients will
often use the internet, whether it is informational or transactional in
nature, they use one of the major search engines:
Google, Yahoo, or MSN. They rely on the content they find as the most
relevant content the internet has to offer. More specifically, they rely on
the content they find on the first page of that search engine.
Anybody can speak negatively about an individual or business.
Unfortunately in today's world, you are who Google says you are.
Our process:
Step 1: Notify you of the complaint. Attempt immediate resolution. These
complaints can be removed from Complaints Central for a small fee, only
$249 USD service charge today (today's date and time have been logged) or
$399 USD service charge next week as we are increasing our prices starting
Monday. These are one time fees only and coverage is lifetime.
We send you an invoice by Paypal.
Step 2: If we cannot obtain immediate resolution today, in order to attract
more visitors to our complaints website, we copy and publish the complaints
we received on Complaints Central onto much higher ranking sites like
Ripoffreport, Yelp, Complaints.com, Scam.com, Pissedconsumer.com,
Craigslist, Backpages, Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, Digg, Pinterest, Google+,
and Facebook. We include a link to the complaint on Complaints Central. This
guarantees that the complaint about your company is ranked on the first page
of Google search results and also gives us more traffic. Removal rates on
ripoffreport.com and pissedconsumer.com are exceptionally higher than ours
and reputations are at a higher risk of damage. It's hard to get a customer
but very easy to lose one.
If you require any further information about the removal procedure and to
proceed with billing, feel free to contact us. Just to repeat, once the
complaint information spreads, it's near impossible to remove it from
Google's search index. If we do not receive correspondence from you, we
assume you are not interested in our offer and will proceed to publish the
complaint. I personally hope we can work together.
Our philosophy is that true or false, good or bad, right or wrong,
complaints are complaints and your customers will share them. To survive and
thrive in today's competitive connected world, businesses need to be
proactive in listening to their customers and responsive in addressing their
complaints. Your number one marketing priority should be developing a 5-star
online reputation. What consumers want is information that will help them
feel confident they're making the best, most well-reasoned purchase. I am
here to help you. Please let me know how you wish to proceed. Act now and
pay less. Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Jane Frances

Go to http://en.wordpress.com/abuse/ to process a complaint about that website.
It violates the following terms of service: (unlawful acts... it's called extortion)
the Content is not spam, is not machine- or randomly-generated, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing);

this is why in this business you have to be on your toes all the time - just to keep on top of these scams!

Why would anyone fall for this kind of trash? It is so obviously a scam. Stupid People! DELETE!!! How many times do they have to be told.

One would hope that anyone running a business and doing their damnedest to get their own website as high on the search engines as they can will see straight away that "Once published on several complaint websites, the complaint will be on the first page of all search engines." is just bunkum!!!
Secondly, at no point in the email is their any attempt to resolve the issue between the business and the customer, it clearly just intends to extort money.

We received the exact same email this morning. Must be making the rounds. Delete!

Wow! Would it not be nice if they could put their brains to work on legitimate business dealings?
