I was gifted an older ipad recently and plan to use it with the Square card reader (or similar from PayPal if I end up going that way). Currently I use an old iphone 3 with the reader (the phone is dedicated for this use, no longer in service as a phone, just lives on the front desk)
I think the ipad will be easier for guests to use. Currently about half are familiar with Square or similar, and about half of those already have their emails in the system to send their receipts. But it seems the larger ipad version would be easier to sign.
For those of you who use the ipad system, any feedback from guests? It would take up more space on my desk, currently the little iphone, reader and signing stylus sit in a mug on top of the desk. I guess I would slide the ipad in among file folders or on the bookshelf. the battery does last a l o n g time.
And did anyone go with the fancy ipad register system Square was touting some time ago? I've no plans to do that. My guest payment records are still paper based. (and no, no cc#s are kept).

What is the question actually, if the iPad is better than a little iPhone for guests to read and sign, YES. :)

I was shopping a couple days ago and they had a mobile device for me to sign. It was a small area, similar to the size of the phone you're talking about. With my fat finger, my signature didn't even look familiar because I was worried about fitting in my name on that small area. I would prefer to sign on an ipad.

I was rambling. Seems like a no-brainer the ipad would be better for guests, but doesn't hurt to ask those who may have encountered a problem I haven't.
I see no difference for me except for space on the front desk, and maybe the temptation for DH to remove and surf without putting back!

My sister uses PayPal Now with an iPad at her store. It's like Square but a little cheaper. I got a Now reader to use with my iPhone but their iPhone software is buggy. I can't even get it to let me sign in. I've googled it and lots have this problem, and PayPal has been unable to get it fixed.
So I've ordered a Square reader and I'll try them. Now is 1/2% cheaper, but no good if their software won't work! (It works fine on the iPad, but not on my iPhone.)

That is why I bought some styli (plural of stylus I hope) for people to use to sign on my iPhone. So far no one has had a problem with that.

Thanks. I hadn't heard of the iphone PayPal bug problem. When I started using Square, PayPal didn't yet have the card reader, I do have a PayPal account I use with that A ir vacation rental booking service, so I could go that way. I don't know if PP can do partial refunds. That problem cropped up quickly after I switched to Square. I accidentally hit one of the tip buttons as I confirmed the charge, then couldn't refund just the tip portion of the charge. Now I really look as they hand the iphone back to me after signing. Another reason I'm thinking of switching to the large ipad for Square charges.

Apple products are the preferred kind of electronics for hipsters and yuppies, two groups which kindle little compassion among their friends. However, even those aforementioned miserable miscreants should get what they purchase and counterfeit iPads are still rampant. When you need help paying for your product, get a personal finance.
