I think this is really weird. I cannot imagine taking something from the B&B and using it OUTSIDE the B&B for the day. Things that do not have a sign saying "Feel free to borrow" like a beach chair, bicycle, etc
Books removed from the B&B to take with them, that are part of the B&B. Not guide books, or scenic books or travel books. Not "borrow this" or paperback exchange books.
We had a travel writer and photog here last night and I was searching for a regional book to place in their room - I wanted to do a few special extras in the room and it was gone! What the!
Well we got it back today, guests in another room decided to abscond it for the day while they were gone...
I was pretty bummed about it. Sure, it could have just been read in the room and I still would not be able to get to it and put in another room...It is just the principal of the thing. The writer is gone now...and oddly enough they gathered other books and things we have here and took to their room last night! DANG I KNEW THAT WOULD HAPPEN...one important book never made an appearance.

I have 2 regional books for the Nat'l Park. If guests are headed that way I try to show them at breakfast and for months I couldn't find the books anywhere. This week they appeared again! Where someone had buried them I don't know, but obviously someone dug deeper into the book stacks than I did. The guests took one of them with them (they asked) so they could match the photos in the book with pix they were taking. I told them they should hold the book open and take a pic of them standing in the same spot.
It's odd what guests will do.
We've had them walk out the door with the coffee mugs in their hands and drive away. They bring them back in the afternoon. (AFTER DH has hounded me for hours about where the coffee mugs are!)

I have copies of the Gazetteer for "stayover" guests to use for the day, but have never had anyone take anything for the day (that I kow of) but we all know I am so disorganized it would not be difficult for me to not even notice.

Happens all the time around here. If we are lucky, the book the guest "borrows" comes back in the mail a month or so later. Mugs go missing and once in a while someone will take a throw from sitting room of their suite to keep warm in the car while they are here. We provide beach blankets, towels and chairs but occasionally we find that a few towels are missing during the day, showing up again upon check-out.

Speaking of taking things...a lady who took a room key and told me she mailed it back just called, this was weeks ago.
She said It came back undeliverable... and then told me the wrong address she sent it to. She said "I saw another address for you on the rcpt you have me..."
Then argued the fact that she got the wrong address "Wrays chapel road" from some of OUR information. Uh no. Never. I don't even know where THAT address is lady. But thanks for putting the blame on me, and not accepting responsibility, again. DOH!
