Anyone know what the stars mean on FB?

Lots of discussion on a LinkedIn group.... but nothing conclusive -- nobody seems to know how FB has come up with the stars!

I guess you have to go into the 'recommend' section on the FB page and rate the place.
I think we have a couple of recommendations. Maybe 2-3.

There's a review box on your FB page. Here's the problem...when they first came out with the reviews, there were no stars. People did reviews and didn't have stars to rate. Then stars appeared. So now, I'm rated 4 out of 5 stars, but all reviews are wonderful. It's not right! And there is no way to respond. There is a remove option, but I seriously doubt that it will change the star rating if you remove it.
Oh, and on one 'review', someone who has never been here just said "looks wonderful" with no stars. Obviously they should have written that in the comments and not reviews, but noooooooo, it takes my star value down.

I have 4 1/2 stars. I have no idea where that was generated. I have no reviews or recommendations that I can see when viewing my page.
I feel as lost as the couple that just called who forgot their directions to our place.

I can't see the recommendations on my page either. I looked for them after I found where the stars were coming from.
I used to be able to see them.

I just figured out what's happening. You must be logged in under your personal, not your business name! When I went to look at mine signed in as my biz, I couldn't see the review box. That's absurd!!copperhead said:

I had to scroll down pretty far to find my Reviews section. It doesn't seem to be any particular place. Maybe it's based on when your last review came in. If your last review was some time back, your Reviews section may be lower on your page...or not. With FB, who knows. I just know that it will probably change tomorrow.

You have 2 reviews! I see them right above the "Likes" box. Are you logged in with your personal and not your biz name?

OK, as ME I can see the recommendations. As the INN I don't see them at all. Which is pretty bad. What If they're awful? I COULD see them as the page admin before the stars showed up because there were 2. One from some guy who just wanted to get his page name showing up somewhere and another one from someone I've never heard of. I can no longer see those as the page admin, I can only see them going to the page as myself.

OK, this is weird. FB is now mixing up our reviews with reviews from one of the restaurants in town -- we don't serve crab cakes with orange reduction sauce! And no, it's not the user who put the review in the wrong place! Going to the restaurant's FB page (the one known for its crab cakes with orange reduction sauce), you can see all our reviews as well as theirs, just as on our FB page. In any case it appears we've been bumped up to a full 5 stars -- whatever they mean!
Also I notice that on most of our FB reviews I have the option to "like" them, and on one at least the option to comment! (Don't remember seeing that before). You do have to click on the "see all" or on the review itself to see these options, they don't show up in the review widget on the page timeline. Also I think you using FB as your personal self, rather than using FB as your page identity (I think, haven't tested that).
