small towns don't like change. pity..
Kenwood is just a neighborhood in Chicago - one of the "got-bucks" neighborhoods. It is not a small town. People are foolish - they do not know what a B & B is and would rather see a house get totally run-down so they can complain about it rather the let money be invested and keep it pristine. The same people who fought this will be the first ones to complain because it is collapsing. The owner needs to get an Alderman in his pocket to prevail.

I am sharing this article for the obv reason, it relates to B&B's but moreso for those who think they can you can open a B&B anywhere and noone cares... licensing and approval comes first, or not.

It really is crazy to let two beautiful houses fall down because you're wrongly concerned with 'traffic' and 'noise.'

"small towns don't like change" I know this all too well. Bridgewater Va. has had a lawyer send me directional letters (4 ) over the years, concerning people using my Barn and yard .One group was a group of Bridgewater locals (friends of mine), they(town hall zoning office) came with a camera & took photos, another time I had my family here ,got a letter 4 days later. You can't cure stupid, you can't cure stupid, you can't cure stupid........it keeps me sane when I have to deal with them....& always smile lots : ) : )

And what they are losing in revenues and taxes makes it REALLY stupid. People are willing to pay a LOT to stay in a FLW house! There are 2 in PA near me and the tour prices are not what I would call cheap. There is a farmhouse in Hampshire, Illinois that was designed by FLW and the granddaughter of the farmer has it as a B & B on the farm now.

Does the article really state why there was opposition? Did I miss a link somewhere?
I wondered if it is something that the buyer did to annoy people in other areas that is carrying over to this place? This is the second attempt to buy and convert a property by the same company.
Maybe the community feels it is being railroaded.

OK, I recognized the Prit zger name - Chicago billions. The could be part of it - not wanting to have that family involved - but I did not recognize that particular one. Did a goo and it is because she was once he.which could be another flag. I am certain that family already owns a LOT of Aldermen. Whatever is stopping this, it is not just a group of citizens - not in Chicago and the money behind this group. Their influence stretches all the way to 1600.
