This has to come from the trainers and the owners. It can't come from 'outsiders'. So good thing they are calling for changes.

its a good thing as it gives real service dogs and trainers a bad name = we have a lovely couple we make an exception to our no pets rule that train guide dogs for the blind as its good practice for the dogs and weve never had any bother with them - even the chamber maid couldn't believe they had had a dog in there!

Around here they use controlled vests. We've had people try with the "therapy" dog nonsense. But really the law protecting businesses from asking is detrimental to the real service dogs. They could use a simple identification system that can validate online and at the same time show the business the law indicating proper procedures without actually indicating the disability. Just an ID number for the animal indicating that it is a "Service" animal.

Until someone goes after the folks who sell those vests online after the dog dies / retires even those vests are not a verifiable indicator.

Not sure if everyone sees it but there is an ad popping up now for registering your service animal or emotional support animal.
This is not a govt sponsored or validated site so what does it buy the dog owner? It looks like you get a certificate and some other id type items.
With no verification at all I can order a service dog vest from this site.
The add says - take your dog anywhere.

You want a new dog... you turn in the vest :)

I am so glad to hear this!! Our town is extremely dog friendly and the "Service Dog" title is thrown around so much it makes me want to strangle them! I'm co-producer of a huge music & food festival in the fall and we've had so much abuse of the "Service Animals Only" rule that the organization who sponsors it has decided that there will be NO ANIMALS, not even service dogs. I've argued the point til they are sick of hearing it. But, legally you can't even quiz the individual about what their service dog is trained for. That's invasion of privacy & HIPAA. We wouldn't have to do it if it wasn't for the A**holes that abuse something that is medically necessary for some individuals. Ooooohhh makes me so mad!

No, the one thing you CAN ask is what service the dog provides.

Scams are a part of human civilization. As soon as money was invented, someone probably created a way to get it dishonestly. Presently, one of the most susceptible groups is the elderly, who fall victim frequently to fraud artists. How often have you needed additional information on where to find a payday loan, and turned to a web site search on "reputable payday loan companies?" Your search is over, all the information you will need is at MatchFinancial.
