We had an almost full house for New Year's Eve. One room was double booked so we offered one couple an "upgrade" - from a room with a day bed to a two room suite.
Everyone was happy in the morning and then told us that the power had gone out! My husband noticed a circuit had broken in the morning and turned it on. Apparently, it had affected two rooms.
Neither said a word. Except in conversation. One said she fantasized that it was 1890 and this is how life is. The other said they just cuddled up and enjoyed the quiet!
We gave a gift certificate to one couple. The ones we upgraded did not get a gift cert. But they were the ones that left a $20 tip!
Couldn't believe how nice they all were!

And before you say it....we have already called the electrician. We are still getting to know the house.

It's so nice when people can not take every thing that goes wrong out on the innkeepers.
You've also got to sort out your bookkeeping to avoid those double bookings.

Bo oking dot com sent us the second booking. It was pretty much simultaneous.

Hate when that happens.
We take all our rooms off booking when we are down to 3 open rooms so we don't get overbooked overnight.

I had a breaker trip this weekend - I prefer to use the tower room heaters versus the central heat because we generally don't need to heat the rooms much here on the Gulf Coast. One room is larger than the others, so I put two heaters in there. Well, two heaters, a coffee pot, and a blow dryer is a bit too much :) They came down and told me, I turned the breaker on, and life went on. No big deal. People expect little quirks in these old houses and if they get all upset about it, they should be taking a longer vacation!
