I wanted to share something from my other life...beyond innkeeping...marketing and social media for Virginia State Parks, I copied this tidbit from the Director's End of Year Report...
An Accomplishment
Another record setting year is behind us. Once again we set an all time record for park visits topping 8.4 million and once again over 1 million overnight visits. Given that our total visits is 300,000 higher than the population of the Commonwealth, and our 1 million overnight visits probably places us at the top or certainly near the top of any hospitality provider, it should be easy for every Virginian to recognize the important economic impact of Virginia's State Parks.
Considering that nearly the entire summer was awash this year, rain rain rain this is really something! I am proud of supporting our state parks, something we can all enjoy (even those outside of our state!)
The report goes on to say more important than money is the most significant accomplishment being the therapy provide to the mind, body and spirit of hard working folks and their families who face daily stress and dodge the curve-balls of life...who are able to find respite at our state parks...and we have the figures #s from the all the programs, the parks, the students, the volunteers, etc who are exposed to outdoor recreations and the awe and wonder of nature!
Anyway, this is something I cherish. My heart is in the outdoors, and that each and every person can enjoy it! So for that, I am very pleased with this report.
