How many of you receive these requests? I get quite a few each year, always suggesting an article, a blog or mentions. How do you reply to them?

If it's a real writer I'd consider it. But I would check the references first.
If you're inclined to turn it down just say you were under the impression that writers could not accept freebies in exchange for articles.

Thanks, but i am not interested:)
if an email, just delete.
if a call, hang up.

I got one recently and replied that I am a small inn and I just could not do it. Thank you for thinking of me.

There were a couple of bloggers a few years back who couldn't wait to tell me how excited they were to be able to offer me the wonderfulness of their presence here on July 4, for 3 nights, spouse and children of course to be included. REALLY? Pull the other leg.
It's one thing to look for places to write about and contact them if you're doing a story in the area anyway but to plan your vacation by TELLING the inn when, where and how many is just too much.

The other one is the tour promoter who wants to be able to send his bus tour to stay with you but needs to verify that his customers would like their stay by first staying himself, for 3 nights, with family.
When I explained I could not do this as we have no parking for buses nor space to host buses and he should contact a hotel, he replied right back and asked me to introduce him to the managers of the hotels I mentioned. Could I call them and give them his name and mention how I couldn't host him but I recommended him to them? Uh, no.
I guess pushy works in some places.
