I've been doing a little testing with my B&B FB page lately. We have a little more than 2,300 fans. Most posts recently are only seen by a fraction of our fans. It's definitely a correlation to how many 'likes' happen within minutes of the post. If the post just sits there and doesn't get any 'likes' right raway, it won't go out to many fans.
So, what I've started doing is to start adding some silly or funny picture posts which have nothing to do with our b&b or our area. They get 'liked' right away and take off! I figure doing these will at least keep our name recognition high.
When you post these silly posts, don't just 'share' them from someone else's post. Save the image on your computer, then post it as a photo on your page so that you're getting the full credit for the post.
My last big post got 70 'likes', 40 'shares' and was seen by 3,132 people. It says it's all 'organic', but I don't know how that can be, because it's more people than the number of fans.
Give it a try!

Facebook has been limiting the posts reach on pages for quite some time.
Eventually they want everything to go as promoted (paid) posts.

Yes, that's why we need to figure out ways around it!

Very good BD. I was kind of thinking the same thing the other day but never really put the idea together in my head!
Hmmm. I bet I can do pretty well by just stealing Innnspiring Roadtrrips stuff and reposting as my own!

I would steal something that will grab more people than the road trip posts. You know who I am now in real life, so go to my b&b FB page and check out the posts I'm talking about. You'll know them when you see them! Those are the type you need to find.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking the other day: all the little clever things I see and share with my own friends. I just didn't quite make it to the step of saving it and starting it as a brand new thing. Excellent suggestion.
I just need more likes. Got a nice new one today from someone who owns a cow with a double personality ;-)

Boy, I'd love to see more pictures on your page. Entice me!

Like so many, I have too many jobs and too little inspiration. But I posted one and we'll see if any of my handful of Likes share it!

Thanks BD, I have started posting those things and it did help but I never thought about saving it 1st so it would be directly from me and not a share!

Arkie, I have found that time of day also plays a part in how many likes you get. Trial and error posting different times of the day to see the timing of your most likes, then schedule your posts for that time frame.

You're right CH, time of day makes a big difference. I try to lunch time and early evenings if it's mid week and weekends are a crap shoot!

Oh, do you remember that free night contest I ran? I got massive amounts of new fans and the person who won the contest never used the free night! It expired 12/31.
She did contact me to use it once, but she wanted to book it during a time I had a 2 night minimum and I told her that as it's been stated from the beginning, the certificate was subject to our reservation/booking policies. She wanted to use it on that certain date because her girlfriend (just friends) who was UNEMPLOYED could only get away that 1 night.
Yeah, right...I'm supposed to lose not only her free night, but 1 more night that I wouldn't be able to book because nobody wants a single Friday night around here! I gave her a long list of single Sat nights she could book, but never heard from her again. OH. SO SAD...

You know, it just occurred to me that this gives an excellent, legitimate purpose for spending all that time on FB. You aren't wasting time. You're conducting business research!

Ha! That's how I justify everything! Today we went out, took some pictures along the way then ate at a restaurant in the bigger town south of us. It's a business expense!

I wish I could convince DH of this. I'm always out taking pictures and sampling the local restaurants and then writing about them. He will not write any of this off. Only if it is a 'sanctioned' event run by 'someone' or some organization.

Can you 'splain this to DH? If I am sitting here I am goofing off and it's perfectly ok for him to demand my help 'doing' something. (No, if he is entering data into the accounting system I do not pester him because he is sitting down in front of the computer.)

That is just plain crazy... If we talk B & B business at dinner with someone and we usually do..alot! They save their receipt as a business expense. We did the same thing when we were open.

We just had our annual B&B dinner. All we do is talk about where to get the best whatever, how to handle tough guests, etc. Will he write that off? Not a chance. It was not organized by an outside entity, it was organized by our local group.

So what..that most certainly should be a business expense more so than just going out to a restaurant to eat. I would MAKE HIM CLAIM IT!

That's just silly! Keep notes on the receipt what you talked about & if it was a new restaurant. We call it 'research' and I wouldn't do it more than once a month, but it's definitely a business expense!
We've even written off trips in the us as our annual meeting since we're a corporation.

I keep asking when our annual meeting is going to be in some Caribbean island!
