I checked other as it depends on what it is...someone left a PUMPKIN ALE here, blech, no wonder!  Sometimes I will put it in guest fridge with "help yourself" on it, if it is wine will use for cooking, etc.

Am with Arks... if am liking an open bottle of wine, have no qualms imbibing the remainder.

I could have chosen two answers.  Depends on what it is.  We have a second full-size fridge in the kitchen for guests to use.  If someone leaves alcohol, we usually leave it there and when giving the next guests their tour we will tell them that they can help themselves to what the last guests left.  Often they will.  Or, we will drink it ourselves.  Whichever happens first.

I've gotten to try many different wines this way!

Caveat - if it's open we dump it. If it's sealed we'll drink it.

Same recycling goes for clothing. I am right now wearing a gorgeous sweater that was never claimed.

If I like it, it goes in my own stash. If it's unopened, I can sell it to my guests (we don't need a liquor license here) and if it's a partial bottle of red wine, it goes into my next batch of pasta sauce!

Wow, your area is very lenient isn't it?

Yes, it's amazing! If you have 6 or less rooms you can sell beer and wine to your guests without a liquor license. That holds true for our whole state.

And it is OK to sell for both on premises consumption or take away.   Sometimes government gets it right.

Beer comes down (unopened of course) to my fridge and if I like a guest or a friend comes, I can offer a beer OR I can make beer bread. Unopened wine goes into the cupboard to be offered to a future guests special occasion since we will probably not remember to open it. Have a bottle from November that we keep forgetting to open - was supposed to be doing that New Year's Eve. Forgot.

If it is still uncorked..Keep it for yourself. They may have done it on purpose. Lots of our guests did that! If its opened, toss it down the drain!

Assuming it's unopened, it goes to my own kitchen.

Open beer gets poured out, of course. If wine is open and over half gone, I pour it out. More than half a bottle left, I taste it and if I like it, I drink it.
