Just makes me wonder sometimes...
Got a call from someone wanting to book the whole inn. And did her friend still own it. Asked the question in that tone of voice I get that implies I can't be the owner so who is.
Of course then does not believe her friend has been gone for 10 years. Where did she go? Does she live in state? Did she move back where she came from? My job to keep track of these people? (Actually, I could give directions right to their door but I won't.)
You know what? The internet is an amazing invention. It knows everything about everybody. You want to know who owns the place? It's on the website. You want to know where your friend lives? Google knows, just ask.
Along the same lines, was asked tonight how many years have we been here, 4? 5?
Sigh. This is another biz owner in town. Who then mentions the Po's were here 'a long time' before they sold. We've almost tripled the time they were here. We're gaining fast on the original owners at this point.
It must have been previous owner night in the atmosphere tonight.

They sure are close friends.

We heard from a 'regular' who knew we had taken over. First question - did you put in air conditioning? "Yes." "Oh thank God!"
Second question - does the room have a TV? "Yes." "Oh Good!!! She took them all out!"

We have now owned our place longer than the 2 previous owners combined. There are still those former guests and neighbors who think we're the new ones.

Don't get me started on the improvements we have made since we have been here - and sometimes I think the guests barely notice!

And you can't exactly advertise new toilet seats.new shower heads, new drains. Sounds too gross. New bedding, rugs, tvs, hairdryers, window coverings.

Yes you can! You blog about it. Or you put something discreet online 'newly refurbished bathrooms!'
Of course then you have the town raising your taxes...so best to just let the guests find the changes on their own.
