This is something important you should know about.[/h3]
A chap was on the linkedin B&B group and for some reason there was a friggin' booking.com LINK attached to his comment. I contacted him, and he couldn't figure it out. He could not get rid of it. He finally deleted the whole thread.
Now, here is the rest of the story...just so you know:
third party advertising attached to your comments...

Yesterday, I posted a comment on here about people leaving comments on trip advisor and booking.com and unwittingly I allowed an advert from booking.com to attach itself to my message.
I was alerted to this but was unable to remove it and finally deleted my comment and resubmitted it and successfully blocked the advert-
I contacted linkedin regarding this phenomenen and there reply is in this message below.
It seems that they give your personal information to sites like booking.com and allow them this privilege, without your permsission.
I have contacted booking.com but there is nowhere on their site that allows you to prevent this.
I have neither given permsission to linkedin nor booking.com to use my email adress or private information to allow them to attach advertising to my comments.
I have voiced my disapproval to linked in and have every intention now of resigning from this site as I find this offensive and invasive.
I think all members should be made aware of this ploy and it saddens me that here another great site has given in the money grabbing and scrambling, without any regard ones privacy- where will it all end??
Heres their reponse to me-
Hi (names removed by JB),
Thank you for contacting me about booking.com associating with your discussions and comments.
LinkedIn allows third part sites to use LinkedIn password authentication to join their sites. Sometimes they request access to the submissions you make in groups. You would need to go to your booking.com account to turn off this setting.
If you have further questions, please feel free to reply to this message.

Q: Sounds horrendous. Have you challenged booking.com on this and asked them to "turn off" this setting?
A: yes- zero response

Thank you Ian and Sophie for the information. Unfortunately I feel compelled to close my LinkedIn account, although it is probably way too late. It has been interesting and informative conversing with all of you.

Before closing accounts - let's all contact linked in / booking.com and complain. Surely they won't ignore all of us???

Never access any site using your Facebook account for the same reasons. Never conduct any business using the same browser while signed into your fb account for the same reason.
Sorry to hear about this nefarious use of someone's personal comments by a third party.

Well I will be making my complaints today. While I feel Booking.com should not be doing this, it is sites like Linked in that by allowing it, makes it seem OK. Linked in gets $ and that is usually the kicker for many companies.

As Maddie pointed out, never use your FB or any other id to log in to anything else but the attended site. This shares your data with others.

almost everyone is always logged in to many things at all times. it is nearly impossible to not be logged in, esp all you who use phones to get email and more.
it is rotten!

Bet they DID give permission. I'll bet it's buried in the terms of use everybody accepts without reading when they join these sites.
Or if it was added to the terms later, it's probably covered by something that makes the user responsible for keeping up with changes in the terms. These big sites area always covered. They have teams of lawyers watching out for them.

I frequently get requests seemingly coming from guests who have stayed here to "connect with them on Linked In" I sincerely doubt the guests have any idea the request email has been sent, and no, I will not bite.

All connected to your email contacts. So the email addie you use in Linked in, that is the one it will search to find possible contacts. Same goes for others... if you have contacted them, they may send you requests.

I'm not on linked in and I get these requests all the time. They all come addressed to 'Dear Pink,'.
I've marked every one of them spam.

We do not have a LI account either but we do receive requests from them to connect through people we know who do have accounts. We just assumed that LI hijacks all the contacts from their member's address books and sends out requests to everyone using the name of the member to get a foot in the door. Just spam as far as I am concerned. Thank goodness for smart computers that are able to learn and filter out all the requests as JUNK.

Something else from the other forum you may be interested in, as of right now our booking calendar on TA does not SHOW FULL, it shows "We can't find prices" and we can find OTHER places to stay in our town, right on our listing header. Literally in a box with our listing header. We are not members of B.com
We terminated our listing with Bxxking . com but were told by them...
after a long discussion back and forth and many attempts by the representative of Bxxking . com to keep us with them, they just told us : .....so that you know our booking calendar at TA will still remain beside your listing there, since TA and we (Bxxking . com) have a business relations ... there is nothing you can do...
Well we told him and that is one more reason to cut them off since we do not want to be blackmailed into any kind of business "relations" to anybody.
1 day later our listing at Bxxking . com shows as booked fully and a customer from out of the country called us because he has seen us on Bxxking . com but it shows no availabilities and he nonetheless wanted to inquire if we have still rooms and he booked with us right away.
This is our 3rd time we cancelled our listing with them and we will enforce it this time, they are like an illness spreading out and taking places everywhere on the internet above our own listing and we are really sick and tired of it.
Well we are glad we !

Oh my...I just had a look at our town's listings. To say folks will be ticked is an understatement. The crappiest places are now listed first because they use bo ok .com Yes blackmail for sure.

I was just doing a search for properties in another area.
This place had a BUSINESS LISTING but because they were not linked up with TA booking partners, there was a bold notice that stated 'we can't find prices for this listing'.
SO if you are are thinking of signing up for a business listing, my advice is it is no longer an advantage unless you sign up with their Tri pconn ect listing OR one of their 'partners'.
No longer is a business listing alone of much value. The business listing info (website, phone # etc) is in small print, your eyes are drawn to the larger and bold print.

Wow. That must cross a line somewhere....I am thinking slander at a min? Making false statements that hurt your business??? Maybe this is something for PAII to look into? There ought to be a law, if there isn't one!

Bo okdotcom called me the other day and i told them I was not interested. Tried to not be rude but they would not give up talking so I finally said not interested and hung up. From everything I have read from the other side of the pond - BedPosts - they are worse than bedandbdotcom!
