Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here uses a specific system to keep track of inventory. We have 10 rooms and only serve breakfast but it seems some items might be going a little faster then they should.
What would you recommend to keep track of inventory and thus better know when and what to buy.
Thank you
James

we have a highly technical system where DH looks in the fridge and linen cupboard and next 3 days figures of occupancy and basically guesses!
If you mean you think items are walking (ie being pinched) its all about keeping a close eye on numbers

My system is, when I notice I'm getting low on something, I take note and get more. A shopping list at the fridge works pretty well.
If you're talking about a computerized inventory system, that seems like overkill for a small business like mine. More trouble than it's worth. It's not like a retail POS system that automatically takes items out of computer inventory as their barcode is scanned at checkout.

Hi Joey,
Not sure why you call me a spammer. I was sharing a link in my signature which I removed after speaking with the admin.
I might be new to the business but in no way am looking to solicit anything. Just looking for information and tips from more experienced owners.
Thanks
James

Thank you. I don't have a lot of items but it does seem like some are being taken or used a lot faster than they should be. I was looking into different systems but I agree that a computerized system is overkill. There are some apps I was looking at that might do the trick.
The other idea I was thinking of was to have numbered cards for each item (we always buy the same products) So for example Strawberry Jam1, Strawberry Jam2 etc.... When a person uses it, they put the card on my desk and I know what we have left. Kind of tedious to put together but it might be worth it.
Some will say can't you just look at the cabinets etc... but we have a large property and many other things to do so I feel or something else along the same line might help?

I say this because the only posts you share have to DO WITH MERCHANDISE. If you were sharing guest stories, or cooking tips, then I would not have said that.
