Wedding Cancelled!

The poor woman called yesterday to tell me it is off (the basic one). He (no kids, older person) had his lawyer draw up a pre-nup. She knew he was doing that and they had discussed it - until she saw it. He had her getting nothing - EVER. So wedding is off. She gave me is address to send the bill. I sent an invoice this morning - do not expect to receive anything but all it cost me was a sheet of paper, an envelope, and a stamp. IF he sends anything (which I doubt) I am ahead. Told her she was lucky to find out now instead of later - poor lady is devastated - the wedding was in 2 weeks.

Sorry for this disappointment. Even though you didn't have a lot invested in it, it's still something you were anticipating and it's a shame when things like that fall through.
Sounds like the groom was looking for a free cook, housekeeper, etc. Lucky she found that out now!

That's so disappointing! Yes, it's a good thing she found out ahead of time.
Do you have a cancellation policy for the elopements? So far, I'm just sticking to our regular cancellation policies (10 days) because I don't have to order any of the wedding items more than a week in advance. If they've rented the whole house or more than 2 rooms, I'm doing a 30 day cancellation. I guess I'll find out how our policy is doing further into the year and re-evaluate then.

I am out nothing. I was able to cancel the flowers. That is why I am not going to be upset if he ignores the invoice. IF he calls I expect him to tell me to collect from her. I only sent it because I told her I would - it seemed to make her feel better. Yes, the preacher was counting on it and I think the Historical Association was looking forward to the extra cash also. Still have the complete package scheduled for a week later - and the newspaper in the Capital is planning to come cover it! Bride said it was OK.

I have had 1 fall through, unfortunately for NYE and I did charge the room(s) portion as it was only days away. She said he left her during the night on Christmas Eve. I am sure in time she will look back and say that was the best Christmas present ever!
Another one sent me an email just the other day 'can we cancel' - wedding is next month & for 60. Contract is 90 days. They are not separating just wanted to wait. I offered a movement of date (at a price) but no refund and they decided to just go for it. Funny, just like overnight stays, suddenly they are fine with things.

They are fine with things so they do not lose the deposit - then they find out how much the divorce will cost...................
