I'm so embarrassed. A man called about booking a room for a week. He wondered about internet access, I said we have wifi. Then he said did I mind that he'd be using a video camera. I said is there a bandwidth problem, he said no. OK. I said he could choose the smallest room , or for $10 more a night he could reserve a larger room. Said he was in town to do some installation of a computer system, but that he had a second job involving internet modelling. Well, dumb me, I thought of all the types of modelling there are except the take your clothes off type.
He asked if there would be enough room for a tripod in the small room, yes, but I still didn't get it. He then proceeded to tell me that he would be taking his clothes off in front of the camera. At least he was honest about that. I hope I didn't violate his civil rights when I told him I'd prefer not to do business with him.
I have often joked with my guests about how I have found that my marketing attempts at getting more business from the local college seem not to be very effective, and that about the only thing I had left to try was getting on page 3 of our newspaper (that's where all the crimes get reported). I probably could have come closer to that if I had agreed to let that fellow stay with me

At least he was not inviting you to join hi. Happy Easter!

I haven't gotten THAT one but have gotten calls about clothing optional stays.

Sometimes I think these people are just out to hear the shock factors and really not wanting to book.

Others are just, well I'll be nice, just not quite right!

Glad he finally told you exactly why!

nothing shocks me - questions would have been
(1) nothing that identifies my inn - within the shots etc ie large branded mug or anything
(2) no noise that disturbs other guests
lol

I've had those as well.
We advertise in some of the gay press and that generates a few pretty strange phone calls. I don't think for a minute they'd phone straight run accommodation and ask if they supply the types of "services" they ask me, so why they think it's acceptable to call a gay run establishment and ask, I really don't know.
I'm sure I've told the story here of the local B&B where a single man asked the lady proprietor if it was ok if he didn't dress for breakfast, she said that was fine thinking he meant wearing something smart. When she came through to the breakfast room he was sat there naked.

innkeep - wow, that's all you need. man with a mug and nothing else, showing your logo. but it sounds like a prank call ... trying to shock you. because why tell you all that?

I'm embarrassed again. Will not go into detail. I'm sure this was a different caller. He spelled out exactly what he wanted to do and allowed me to tell him I would feel more comfortable if he did it elsewhere.
Unfortunately, as I get busier, I seem to be attracting more unusual requests.

On the other point, we have limited our advertising when it comes to the gay travel market mostly because we didn't want to brand ourselves solely as a gay bed and breakfast. When we were doing our research way back then, we looked at it and thought the market was just too small for our location.
We have stayed at a place that was designed as a gay resort and enjoyed it, but that was in Key West, and even there I might wonder if the market would be too small.
Over the years, our gay couples choose us for the same reasons everyone chooses us and they tend to be just like us- mid-fifties looking for a more upscale option. No one has asked about clothing optional- yet.

Yikes! Did your site get posted on some "site" somewhere?

Innkeep you may wish to make a comment to your local police dept. They may have something going on in the area and you can help by giving them this info.
Set up google alerts if you haven't already for your B&B name

When we first moved here I fielded a lot of calls from guys who got our phone from somewhere and were calling to harass the female owner.
If they got dh they just asked for a room or hung up. If they got me they got very rude and obscene.
It's possible you got targeted by someone who is just goofing on you. And then passing on your phone number to friends to goof on you.
However, you should report it because I'd consider it to be obscene phone calls if nothing else.
