I was talking to a tech savy B&B owning friend the other day and was surprised to discover he didn't know about keyboard shortcuts. I thought I'd post about them here in case others had not heard of them.
Like me you probably spend quite a bit of time replying to emails, and a lot of the time you just repeat the same information. You can use keyboard shortcuts to make writing replies much easier, for example.....
I normally start my replies with "Thank you for your enquiry for accommodation at (my place).". Another phrase I use a lot is "I have just spoken to the (local Inn) and booked you a table for ".
I have my devices set up so when I type ty it gets expanded out to the 1st one and di expands out to the 2nd one.
Once you start using them you can quickly build up a library of phrases you use a lot, I have one for "Regards, (my name)....(out contact details) for the end of emails, I have "We look forward to welcoming you to ...." and it makes replying to emails much quicker.
How to do it?
On a PC you'll need a piece of free software call hotkeys, it's easy to install and you create a file with all your shortcuts defined it it, it comes with easy examples to get you started. Each time you update the file you need to refresh hotkeys by clicking on it's icon.
On ap ple devices you need to go into settings>>general>>keyboard and you can define phrases and shortcuts in there.
I'm sure it's possible on other platforms.
Hope that's useful.
