I'm making some duvet covers and was wondering what type of closure I should put on them. Zippers work out the easiest but they're going to have to be really long.
Snaps? I don't think I can do buttonholes on my machine.

I not sure if you would like how it worked for me. I tried two ways one was with ties the other was Velcro tabs. I saw some in a store they had theirs with snaps.
Just some thoughts that might help?

How about just an envelope enclosure? Not sure how to explain it, but that's how Com-phy does theirs, and I love it. I can try and take a picture, if you'd like?

You might want to try velcro for the closures. You can get it in color and any lengths. I have had tan and black. If I ever get brave enough to make duvet covers I think I might consider sewing one side of the velcro to the side seam of the duvet cover and the other side to the comforter or blanket. Might hold the damned thing in place instead of it sliding all over And be easier to tell which side of the comforter/blanker is the side and which is the top/bottom.

I won't do snapps cos when you put them in the tumble dryer they melt - buttons don't
I wouldn't know about Velcro but I would assume they would melt as well - some sewing machines have a button hole setting
or ours we get from the professional laundry don't have closures - just extra long so you tuck it in a bit at the bottom - its because they have to boil wash and then industrial iron 1000's of them every day they just go through like sheets then.
I think the comphy ones you mentioned have ends like a pillow case - I know what you mean - just huge!

On a daytime TV program they were talking about household items for people with disabilities. One of the items was a duvet cover that opened up two sides so you could lay it out on the bed, put the duvet into it and then close it over.
The lady introducing the program said putting duvet covers on was a horrible job (agree) and they should make them like that for everyone.

I would vote for an envelope enclosure...but man I am just impressed you are MAKING them....

I prefer zippers-you can get them very long-duvet zippers. I buy them at fabric store for under $2 a piece

Mine has the envelope enclosure and I can't make it stay closed or lay flat. I tried snaps and they pulled loose after yanking on it a few times.

Think about Velcro in the wash. No can do. My jacket has Velcro and it comes out worse each time. Picks up every bit of lint and hair in the machine!
But definitely easy!

Any particular fabric store? And what length do you buy. This would be a queen size.

in the UK it would cost more to make than to buy - they are EVERYWHERE!
.
They are everywhere here, too, but not the colors I want. Most of mine are plain white which is easy to wash and swap out but some rooms look stark with white.

I once had directions on how to make them from flat sheets - do not know what I did with them currently (surprise, surprise), but it was quite easy to do.

That's how I did the ones I made years ago. Can't find single sheets other than white or very expensive!
Altho, the big outlet in town does have some decent sales on single flat sheets!

I think most of the fabric stores have them. In Toronto best place is Designer Fabric Store on Queen St. I think they only have them in open size-duvet.
