We were relaxing in the sun and a couple walked up to us saying they were booked here for 4th of July. (I thought of all of you and how it was our 5 minutes in the sun and now we had to entertain a guest that wasn't checking in for 2 months. But we didn't mind)
So we introduced ourselves. They said they'd been staying in our inn for 10 years. They asked to see the room to see if we'd made any changes. We agreed to show them around.
So we get to their room and the husband peeks into the bathroom and says, "Thank God!! A new showerhead!!!"
They told us the shower never worked and they would use showers in the other rooms but never told the owner because she was so sweet. We told them that not only did we change every showerhead, but we also changed the toilet seats, added hairdryers and upgraded the electrical for air conditioning. I thought they were going to cry.
Not sure why they kept coming back to a substandard room, but I do know they love the view. So, lucky us. A happy, repeat customer. And really nice couple, too. Looking forward to hosting them in July.
(Oh, and P.S. they also said they had considered buying the place but didn't like the commute to her job. They shared a look when they found that my job is a block from hers.)

They used the showers in other rooms but never told her. I cringe to think.

"They told us the shower never worked and they would use showers in the other rooms but never told the owner because she was so sweet"
Are you kidding me? She was sweet, and they are? They USED SHOWERS IN OTHER GUEST ROOMS?
You better lock all the doors and hide the children.

Things like this always make an Inkeepers day ! :).
How wonderful for you good Job! the word will spread.
As afar as going into other rooms yuk! and yikes. What did other people feel about seeing hair and dried up water in the showers.
that gross me out.!!!!!! That is as bad as hot e l s washing drink glass out with the same cloth they wiped garbage pail, vanity and so on..

Yes, I did. I thought the moral of the story was either, the place was so rough, they even noticed the shower heads OR they were second guessing not buying the house. Nope, the innkeepers all hear, "another room??????" LOL

And then you wonder how much business did the PO lose because of blockheads like them. IF they did crap like that, I shudder to think of them as innkeepers. IF she had bad reviews, now we know why for some of them.

What's even odder is that you didn't hear that. You allow guests to go into other guest rooms they have not paid for an use their restrooms and showers? Once it happens to you then you will see the same thing we saw. Check a guest in and find someone else's body hair in their shower or toilet. It is a wonderful feeling, one I don't want to have to feel again.
Yes, it happened to me, and yes I keep all guest rooms doors locked when not occupied.
Guests had sex on top of other beds in other guest rooms. Went around trying them all.
An old man was taking a d - toilet break in one bathroom not his own when I caught him, he replied "My wife said to go do that somewhere else"

We had to install an exterior lock on the detached bathroom door because so many guests, who were specifically told not to, used the bathroom anyway or took all the towels for their own room.
I liked to leave the door open to bring light into the hallway but it's not possible unless I want too clean that bathroom everyday.
We have had several guests decide they didn't want to sleep in the same room with the person they came with who just picked another room for the night. (Some who told us and some who just remade the bed thinking we wouldn't notice.)
Now we lock all the guest room doors at night.
Altho I do know Joey's guests ran amuck during the daytime!
