Travelers warned of false B&;B claims
Excerpt: Travelers warned of false B&B claims
Re: The April 26 column ("State AG heavy-handed in dealing with Airbnb") by Sara Foss.
She was defending the Airbnb booking service for travelers looking to save on the cost of a hotel stay. The issue for the attorney general is that these underground services are breaking the law. They don't collect sale taxes and it is assumed that the owners in many cases are not reporting the income.
(ps typo at top is not mine, jb)

Anyone on HARO may have seen this:
2) Summary: Airbnb financial prospects
Name: Vanessa Drucker Fund Strategy magazine
Category: Travel
Email: [email protected]
Media Outlet: Fund Strategy magazine
Deadline: 12:00 PM EST - 21 May
Query:
I'm looking to discuss the financial outlook (IPO, etc.) for
Airbnb, particularly the possible litigation in NY and San
Francisco, such as tax issues.
Requirements:
Attorneys, lodging analysts; anecdotal report from someone
inconvenienced by Airbnb next door, perhaps by transients coming
through premises.

All three of these inn the news to say, SEE PEOPLE DO CARE if there is an illegal non taxing paying non inspected non approved fake B&B in their neighborhood!

I saw it and ignored it. The only response I have ever gotten from a HARO pitch has been an invitation to list on a web site - uh, no thanks. I am seriously wondering why I bother with it. It is just another "looking for luxury...."
