I've been feverishly working on a room remodel all week, trying to juggle guests and out of town friends staying here...knowing I needed to get it done by today for the weekend. Am I the only one that puts off doing these things until the busy season, when I had six months (or more) of downtime to do it? I don't know why I do that - I must secretly like the stress.
Anyway, I thought I'd post a couple pictures. This room has always been the bane of my existence. It is located over my quarters, so I have secretly always hated it. LOL. I don't remember if I was on a very tight budget (most likely), or I really liked the thought of red and gold, but I got really carried away with those colors when I first decorated it. Red bedding, red drapes, red pillows, red shower curtain. My friends called it "The Ugly Red Room" and then would whisper "Redrum" under their breath (all in a joking way, of course...but still). It was always the last room to rent, and I actually found myself almost talking people out of reserving it. That's how much I hated it. So...time for a change.
I had a budget of $500, but I already had an extra king bed that I could switch out for the queen that was currently in there. King rooms rent so much faster than queens, and you can get extra for them). So although it's not a huge room, I decided to chance it and put that king bed in there. Once I took down the room darkening RED drapes, the room OPENED up, and grew two times in size. Amazing. I also already had the duvet cover to put on the comforter, so I saved quite a bit there.
My $500 budget bought:
A 32" TV with DVD player - wall mounted (getting rid of a huge armoire that housed the other 10 year old tube TV) ~ $200 (yes! $200).
New drapes at Mar_shalls - beautiful feminine white with a soft blue toile pattern ~ $90
Drapery tiebacks ~ $8
Shower curtain ~ $20
Throw pillows ~ $40
New pictures ~ $90
I've got a little left, so I'm going to splurge on a chocolate brown Com_phy blanket, and paint one wall a different color. I'm very happy with it, and that's never easy for me to say (I'm a Virgo
